This invention relates to certain novel improvements in display racks and more particularly to afrack for supporting` material sold in rolls and has for its principal object the provision ot' an improved construction of this character which will be `highly efli` bination and arrangement `ot parts to be` hereinafter described andl claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings, showing the preferred form of construction and in which:
Fig. 1y isa typical side elevational viewof the invention;
` Fig. 2 is a sectional detail view taken substantially on line 2`-2 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional 'detail view taken substantially onl line `3-3 of Fig. 1; and
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a blade embodied in the invention.
The preferred form of construction, as illustratedin the drawing, includes a rack v cutting comprising a bottom plate supported by suitable feet 11. Extending upwardly from this bottom plate at opposite ends thereof, are end plates 12 reenforced in their vertical position through the medium of bracing bars 13. Secured to the end plates, a substantial distance from the top edges 14 thereof is a top plate 15. This top plate 15 comprises two sections 16 and 1 7 secured together by suitable screw elements 18. Secured to the end plates between the section 17 and bottom 10 are a plurality of equally spaced brackets 19 which are adapted to removably support a roll of material (not shown). These brack` ets include lateral shelves 20 substantially semi-circular in cross section and on these shelves is placed the ends of the rod of the roll of material. These brackets 2O are secured to the end plates in parallel rows through the medium of screwelements 21.
The upper end portions 22 of the end plates have secured thereto brackets 23, said brackets 23 being located above the section 16 and formed substantially similar to the brackets 20.
The A longitudinal mar ginal edge,` portions 24 of thesection 16 has formed therein lon itudinaly extending L-sha edgrooves `25`vv1th the horizontal portion o the grooves` openmg from the longitudinal edges 24.
Slidably` arranged in these grooves are cutter frames`26. These cutter frames include topplates 27 having spaced perforations 28 formed therein and carried by the topplates arepins 29 which work-in the horizontal portions of thegrooves. The frames further include bottomplates 30 which have formed 4 lthereon studs 31 adapted for insertion inthe perforations 28, saidibottom plates being secured to the top plates by suitable screw elements 32. iBetween the top and bottom plates of the cutter frames is adapted t0 be arranged razor blades 33 which have perfo"- rations 34- formed therein through which the screws 32 and studs 31 project; the cutting edges V35 of the razor blades being exposed from t-he Side edges of the cutter frames and the inner portions of these razor blades extending into the horizontal grooves.` The top plates 4further include ha1`1dles36`which tudinally of thesection 16. i
Secured to the end plates 12 onvopposite side edges thereof are blocks 37. t Formed in these blocks 37 are inwardly and upwardly extending grooves 38 ,which terminate into end portions of grooves` 39 formedin the logitudinal edges of the section 17. y
Clamping rod-s 40 have their end portions mounted in the grooves 38 and these clamping rods are adapted to be moved toward the longitudinal edges of the section 17 for confinement in the longitudinal grooves 39. In use, the rolls of material to be displayed are supported by the brackets 19. To cut a lengthv of material from one of the rolls the roll is removed from the brackets`19 supporting the same and mounted with the end portions of its rod in the brackets 23. The material is rolled out in a direction between the section 16 and clamping rod 40 in the di-` rection of the unrolling of the material. The length to be cut from the roll is measured through the medium of measuring marks 41 stamped or printed on the edges 42 of end plates 12. When the material has been unrolled the required distance the clamping rod adjacentthereto is moved to force a portion of the material into the longitudinal groove adapted to receive that clampingrod. This clamps the material in facilitate moving the cutter frames lengt my invention into effect, this is capable of va-.
riation and modification, without departing from ,thel spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limitedto the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to-avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent-is: Y
1. In a display rack, a frame including end platesand atop plate between the end plates, said top plate having a longitudinal -shaped groove formed therein, cutter mechanisml operable in the horizontal portions ot' the groove, pins carried by vthe mechanism and operable in the vertical portion of the groove, and means carried by the end plates for supporting a roll of material tobe severed in length by the mechanism when unrolled, `said mechanism including two plates, means detachably connecting the plates together, and a cutter blade supported between t-heI lates, and means movable into clamping rellaition with the unrolled material for supporting the material during cutting operation thereon.
2. In a display rack, a frameincludin end plates and a top plate between the en plates, said top plate having a longitudinal L-shapedl groove' formed therein, cutter mechanism operable in the horizontal portions of the roove, pins carried by the mechanism an operable in the vertical portion of the groove, and means carried by the end plates for supporting a roll of material to be severed in length by the mechanism when unrolled, said top late having a longitudinal groove formed therein, grooved blocks carried by the end plates, the grooves of said blocks opening into theends of the longitudinal groove and a rod having its end ort-ions mounted in the grooves of the rlocks and movable in a direction to clamp the unrolled material in the longitudinal groove. y
3. In a display rack, a frame including end plates and a top plate between the end plates, said top plate having a lonigtudinal L-shaped `groove formed therein, cutter mechanism operable in the horizontal portions of the groove, pins Vcarried bv the mechanism and operable in the vertical ortion of the groove, and brackets carrie by the end plates for supporting a roll of material to be severed in length by the mechaanism when unrolled, said top plate having a longitudinal groove formed therein, grooved blocks carried by the end platesy'the grooves of said blocks opening into the ends of the longitudinal groove anda rod having its end portions mounted in the grooves of the bloc-ks and movablein a direction to clamp the unrolled material inthe longitudinal groove.
In testimony whereof I'atlx my signature.
JAMES H. LEPPER.
