=This invention relates to an improved cosmetic-and the process of producing the same.
One of the objects of the invention to provide a cosmetic which, when applied to the skin of the face, will form a soft thin film possessing the properties of 'an antiseptic soothing, the film-like coating, when dry, powder an other cosmetics-in a more ready and convenient manner than has heretofore been possible and likewise permitting the face powder or the like to remain for a longer period of time, as it is not in direct contact with the skin.
The cosmetic embodying the invention contains the following ingredients in substantially the proportions stated:
Bengal'isinglass agar 1 part.
Boric acid solution (1% strength) 300 to 500 parts.
Solution of gloiopeltis furcata .15 parts in 10 parts of Water.
Hexamethylenetetramine .01 part. Benzoate of lithium or sodium .3 parts. Lanolin in alcoholic solution approximately 3 parts. I
In preparing the cosmetic, one part of agar or Bengal isinglass is mixed with from 300 to 500 parts of a one percent solution of boric acid and heat is applied and the solution placed under a pressure of approximately two atmospheres.
and after this solutionhas been prepared,
there is added thereto a solution of gloiopeltis furcata of a strength of and the solution obtained is capab ver thin and soft film on the skin of the .15 parts in ten parts of water and a mixture: of .01 part of hexameth lenetetramine and .3 parts of "benzoate of lithium or sodium, together with This ,is done to reduce coagulation of the Bengal isinglass,
the whole mixture Application filed April 10, 1925. Serial No. 22,195.
face and likewise, the solution prevents decomposition of the hexamethylenetetramine, which is of importance as the antiseptic properties of this ingredient are, therefore, left unimpaired Whereas the ingredient might otherwise decompose, producing formaline and ammonia, which substances would have an irritating efl'ect on the skin. Likewise, the benzoate of lithium or sodium assists in preventing deterioration of the hexamethylene'tetramine.
The gloiopeltis furcata and the lanolin serve to nourish the skin and have a soothing efi'ect.
The cosmetic is applied to the skin of the face and permitted to dry and will form a thin and'soft film-like coating which is substantially invisible and overwhich powder may be applied or other cosmetics appliedwithout the same coming in direct contact with the skin. I 4 Having thus described the invention, what claim is: I
1. A substantially noncoagula'tive nonirritating cosmetic comprising anintin'iate mixture of Bengal isinglass agar in a solution of boric acid heated under pressure and a solution-of gloiopeltis furcata, hexamethyw lenetetramine, benzoate of lithium, and an alcoholic solution of lanolin which when applied to the skin will form a thin soft dry film. h 2. The process of preparing a cosmetic which comprises forming a slightly acid solution of Bengal 'isinglass agar, heating the solution under a pressure of approximately two atmospheres to prevent coagulation, add-- ing to the solution a solution of gloiopeltis furcata, hex:imethylenetetramine, benzoalc of lithium, and an alcoholic solution of lanolin.
3. The process of preparing a cosmetic whichconsists in dissolving Bengal isinglass agar in a heated slightly acid solution under pressure and. adding to the solution a. small quantity of hexamethylenetetramine.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature.
