PATENT OFFICE.

- TOOTH SCBUBBEB.
Application filed January 30, 1925. Serial No. 5,723.
This invention relates to scrubbing im- I plements.
This invention has utility when incorporated in oral hygiene apparatus, as scrubbers for teeth.
Referring to the drawings:
Fig. l is a perspective view of an embodiment of the invention as a tooth scrubber- F ig. 2 is a section on the line IIII, F i 1' "ig. 3 is a plan view of the handle of the device of. Fig. 1, with the filler removed;
Fig. 4 is a section on the line IV-IV, Fig. 3;
Fig. 5 is a section on the line VV, Fig. 3;
Fig. 6 is a plan view of the filler or scrubber in flat position;
Fig. 7 is an end elevation of the filler of Fi 6' ig. 8 shows the flexing of the filler 1ongitudinally into general V-shape; and
Fig. 9 is a section onthe line IX--IX, Fi 1.
fiandle l is shown as having extension or back 2 having seat 3 overhung by opposing tongues 4, 5, in providing I-shaped seat 6. The filler of scrubber type construction having flexible base 7 of general I-form, is shown as provided with flexible prongs 8 of decreasing lengths toward the plain central portion 9 of this base 7. These prongs 8 are flexible and of a Wedge form. In practice it is desirable to have this base 7 one which may be readily flexed, as say of rubber, and the prongs likewise readily flexed and integral with the base 7, as of rubber.
.For assembly of this scrubber filler in the base or back 2, minor recess 10 may be thrust under overhanging tongue 4. Then major recess 11, by buckling the filler base 7 slightly in its longitudinal extent, may he slipped under overhanging tongue 5 so that the prong carrying portions of this filler approximately extend flush with the end 01 the base 2. V i v The V-form of the body 7 as assembled in the handle, disposes the prongs 8 in opposed groups of progressively increased lengths as more remote from the apex of the V. The flexible base or back 7, together with the prongs 8, permit Variation of spacing between the termini of the prongs while in use to insure contact with the teeth at all times. Accordingly in practice, with shitting of the handle either along a series of teeth in the mouth of the user or up and down on the teeth in the mouth of the user, there is a smooth scrubbing action for general massaging of the gums for effectively removing any tendency of tartar accumulation, as well as a mild effective cleansing of the teeth and gums with prongs of a character which will not wound or lodge in the mouth in such operations.
WVhat is claimed and it is desired to secure by Letters Patent is y '1. A tooth brush comprising a handle having a head at one end having a depres sion therein forming an elongated seat, a pair of tongues on said head projecting over said seat, one from each end thereof and spaced from each other, a'cleaning filler comprising a flexible body having an intermediate portion anchored to said seat by engagement between said tongues and seat to have the filler free ends diverging from said seat.
2. An oral hygiene filler comprising a sheet body having a pair of parallel major prong carrying portions, and a narrower connecting portion centrally between said prong carrying portions, said filler major portions being flexible, and said prongs having wedge termini determining parallel lines.
In witness whereof I affix my si nature.
