Application led April 7,
This invention relates to improvement inl the claims.
y constructed in accordance with my inven- In the accompanying drawings: Fig. l is a side View of a grapefruit corer tion; p Fig. 2 is an underside view of thesame;
Fig. 3 is a side view at right angles to Fig. k1; and i Fig. 4 is a sectional view on the hue -1-4 of Fig. l, showing by broken lines the cutterring in its cutting position.
In carrying out my invention, I employ a tubular cutter 5 provided atl its lower end with a cutting-edge 6.` Secured to this cutter is a handle-shank 7 provided at its upper end with a hand-grip 8. The handlesliank 7 is formed from sheet-metal and provided on opposite sides withA slots 9 through which a pin l() extends, and fixed to opposite ends of this pin, outside the shank, are finger-pieces l1. Pivotally mounted in the cutter 5 and substantially corresponding in diameter thereto is a cutter-ring l2 having cutting-edges 13 at the top and bottom, and
lone side of this ring is connected by a link 14 with the pin 10. Preferably, the edges 15 of the upper portion of the shank will be turned in to form a housing for a spring 16, the tendency of which is to force the link 1 4: downward so as to hold the ring 12 in a horizontal position.
In use, the cutter is placed around the core in half a grapefruit and pressed inward to the desired extent; then the nger-pieces 11 are drawn upward, so as to swing the cutterring 12 to a vertical position and,.in so moving, the coreis cut halfway through. The device is then rotated and, in rotating, the remaining portion of the core is severed. During the cutting operation, the cutter-ring may be oscillated so that both of the cuttingedges are brought into action. After the core is completely severed, the device is removed GRAPEFRIT COREE.

andcarrieswith it the core, which, when the I finger-pieces arereleased, will drop the cutter.
I thus provide, in a very simple way, an effective device for removing the cores vof grapefruit, making a clean cut and completely removing the core.
I claim:
1. A'grapefruit corer, comprising a tubuout of lar cutter formed at its lower end-witha cutting-edge, ay handle secured'to the upper end ofsaid cutter, 'a cutter-ring of uniform width `mounted in tlietubular cutter upon a pivot extending transversely through the ,cutter-ring, a transverse pin arranged for vertical movement in the handle, and a link vconnecting the said pinwith the said cutter.
2. A grapefruit corer, comprising a tubular cutter formed at its lower end with a cutting-edge, a handle secured to the upper end of said cutter, a cutter-ring mounted in the tubular cutter `upon a pivot 'extending transversely through the cutter-ring, a transverse pin arranged for vertical movement in the handle, a link connecting the said'pin with the said cutter,and a spring tending to force the link downward. 3. A grapefruit corer, comprising a tubular cutter formed at its lower end with a cuttiiig-edge, a handle secured tothe upper' end of said cutter, a cutter-ring mounted in the tubular cutter uponV a pivot extending y transversely through the cutter-ring and provided with upper and lower cutting-edges, a transverse pin arranged for vertical movement in the handle, and a link connecting' the said pin with the said cutter. v 4t. A grapefruit corer, comprising, a tubular ycutter having a cutting-edge at its lower end, a sheet-metal handle v'secured to said cutter, said handle comprising a shank and a grip, said shank formed with vertical slots, a pin extendingthrough saidA slots, fingerpieces Vmounted at opposite .ends of said pin, a cutter-ring mounted in the tubular cutter upon a pivot extending transversely through the cutter-ring, and a` link connecting said pin with the cutter-ring.
5. A grapefruit corer, comprising a tubular cutter having a cutting-edge at its `lower end, a sheet-metal handlesecured to said cutter, said handle comprising a shank and cutter-ring mounted in the tubular cutter aJ grip, said shank formed with verticalslots, upon a pivot extending transversely through a. pin extending through said slots, the edges the cutter-ring and a link connecting Said 10 of the 'said shank turned inward above Said pin with the cutter-ring. l
f 6 pin and a spring within said shank and-tend- In testimony whereof, I have signed this ing to force the pin downward, finger-pieces specification. s 'Y I 7 f* mounted on opposite `ends of Said pin, a. WILLIAM E. WALSH.
