This invention relates to improvements in hosiery, and in particular' to hosiery so constructed that it may be worn as an ordinary golf stocking or may be readily converted into a golf stocking having a rolled and ornamental top; i

The invention further relates to an improved method of folding said stocking so that the desired effects or styles may be obtained.

Referring to the drawings forming a part of this specification in which like characters represent similar parts throughout:

The stocking is provided with a shank portion 10 and a foot portion 11. A cufi portion 12 is sewed, knitted or otherwise secured to the shank portion 10 on the lines 13 and 14. The distance between the lines 13 and 14 is substantially the same as the distance that the cuff portion extends above and beyond the line 13 so that the cuflt' portion may be folded over on the outside of the stocking and extend for a substantial distance below the line 13 as shown in Fig. 2. `The cufl portion, when forming an extension of the shank portion 10, is less than a full length stocking, but when folded as shown in Fig. 2 resents an ornamental desi on the cilli portion as indicated in Fg. 1.

The checked inner portion between the lines 13 and 14 is then transformed into the rolled outer surface as shown in Fig. 3, presenting a highly pleasing appearance.

It is obvious that such a stocking may be worn as a regular golf stocking, and when so worn, would appear to be a cufl golf stocking of the conventional kind in which the cuff is of the usual turned-down type. WVhen desired, such stocking may readily be converted into the conventional roll top golf stocking as heretofore described.

I have found that the best results are obtained by attaching the cufi portion 12 to the inside of the shank portion 10. This cuff portion may be formed separately from the shank portion and then Secured thereto, or it may be formed in the same knitting process or operation with the shank portion 10.

Preferably before rollingthe stocking it is first pulled up taut or stretched and then rolled whereby the elasticity of the completed stocking as so rolled will tend to hold the stocking at a hi her point and approximately where the original enti was' positioned while at the same time tending to prevent it slipping out of this position even though no garters Were employed.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:

A convertible stocking comprising foot and shank members, a cuf portion Secured ndjacent one of its ends to the inside of the shank member at the upper part of the 10 Iatter, the eufl' member extending substantially the same distance without the shank portion as it extends within the same, said enff member being provided with ornamental designs on its pper and lower portions.
