The present invention relates to cabinet construction and particularly to the construction of refrigerator cabinets'. Oneof: the ob'ects of the present invention .is to l simpli y the constructionto reduce the cost of manufacture of refrigerator cablnets and 4one way of carr ing out this ob]ect is provide'for assem ling the cabinet from unita subassemblies. lllYurther objects and advantages of the resent invention will be apparentfrom the ollowing description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, wherein a preferred form of embodiment of the present invention is clearly shown.

Referring to the drawings, one subassemblyof the refrigerator cabinet,20 includes a front wall 21 havin a door opening 22, and side wallsA 24 an 25 and a top wall 26 which are rovided with inwardly extending flanges 2g which are secured by` screws 28 to the back'of the front wall 21. Walls 24, 25 and 26 form a U shaped memi5 ber 29 and is herein shown constructed of/V one continuous piece of metal. It is to be understood, however, that these walls can be made of separate members and suitably .con-v nected to ether.. The rear edges of ywalls 40, 24, 25 and 26 are provided with inwardly' extending {ianges 30, 31 and 32. l
The food compartment subassembly of the refrigerator includes a lining 34 having an opening 35 at whichlplaceV the lining is flan ed outwardly, as at 36. 'The entirel outside wall of the lining 34 isl covered with insulating material 37 such as c'orkboard which is attached to the lining 34 by a cel I ment preferably of4 fan asphalticwaterproon type. The upper en d ofi-the back wall o the insulating material 37 vcarries a wood strip 38'imbedded within the said corkboard and secured thereto by the same tvpe. of cement. The lining 34, insulating '55 3? and strip 38 forming a subassembly'unit attach the back wall to the strip 54. '..'OWhen the fcabinet is thus assembled the 40 which is adapted t6 be inserted from the` bottomof the cabinet into the U shaped member 29, the top wall of the unit 40 en'- gaging the wall 26 and the front wall of the umt 40 engaging the front wall 21.
After the unit 140 has been-inserted within the U shaped member, said unit is clamped tightly against the front wall 21 by an auxiliary tool such as C clamps or the like. A metal pry or wedge 41 is then inserted between the iiange 32 of wall 26 and the wood strip '38 each pry being secured to the strip Y 33 by screws 42. These wedges cooperate with ythe flange 32 to press the unit 40-into engagement with the front wall 21.
The bottom of the unit 40 rests upon a `wood frame 44 enclosing a block of insulating material 45 which -is sealed to the bottom wall of the insulating material 37 and to the frame 44. In assembling, the 76 frame 44 is placed in position and then a coating of moltenplastic material, such as 'an asphaltio cement or asphalt or tarry emulsion, is poured in the insulation 37 within the space surroundedl by theframe 44. The insulating block 45 is then placed in position and against the plastic material and held in vthis position untilthe plasticv material cools suficiently to cause the block 45 to stick in position.. Some of the plastic material will adhere to thel frame 44 andv thus hold same in position. Vhile the unit 40is still' clamped 4against the front 21 b the auxiliary clamping. means, a bracket 4 is secured by screws 48 to the frame 44 and ou the front 21 to maintain the lower end of theunit 40 in engagement with the wall 21. When the auxiliary clamping means is-removed the unit 40 will be held tight against the wall 21 by the wedges 41 and the frame o5 Posts 50. carrying feet 51 are secured to ,the frame44 by brackets 52 and the two front posts are also' secured to the'wall 21 by brackets 53.
