PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH MasoAnI AND PAUL ROMA, or BROOKLYN, NEW YORK; SAID, ROMA ASSIGNOB to slim ,MASCAVLI.
SHOE-TIE-CLAMPING DEVICE.
Application filed March 9, 1927. Serial No. 174,008.
This invention relates to a clamping device particularly adapted as an attachment for womens tie pumps to afford means for retaining the ribbon bow knot in tied con dition against accidental untying while serving in the capacity of an ornament for concealing the knot from view.
The invention furthermore comprehends an attachment of the character set forth which includes means for securely attaching the same to theribbon or tie for preventing accidental displacement of the device from the ribbon or tie and the accidental disassociation of the ribbon or tie from the shoe, the device further including relatively movable sections facilitating the release or clamping of the bow knot.
Other objects reside in the simplicity of construction, the economy with which the same may be produced, and the general efliciency derived therefrom.
WVith the above recited and other objects in view, reference is had to the following specification and accompanying drawings in which there is exhibited one example or embodiment of the invention which is in no way intended as a limitation upon the scope of the appended claims as it is to be clearly understood that variations and modifications which properly fall within the scope of said claims may be resorted to when found expedient.
In the drawings-- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device in applied relation;
Fig. 2 is a sectional view therethrough,
Fig. 3 is an inner face view of the device opened.
Fig. 4c is a front view illustrating the clamping device open with the ribbon or tie untied.
Referring to the drawings by characters of reference, the device includes a pair of clam-ping sections 10 and 11 which are formed with alined hinge knuckles 12 and 13 through which a hinge pin 14: extends, whereby the sections are hingedly connected together at one end. The opposite free ends are provided with suitable interengaged members 15 and 16 of a separable fastening element, such as a snap fastener or its equivalent. The sections 10 and 11 are longitudinally bowed and are of a resilient material so as to render the device yieldable to a degree. The section 10 is provided with any suitable means 17 for attaching the same to the medial portion of the ribbon or tie A, which is employed for the purpose of tying the upper of a pump B in applied relation to the foot, and said means preferably, as illustrated, is in the nature of a spring clip, although it is to be understood that any means of attachment may be employed for more or less permanently connecting the device with the lace. The section 10 when so associatedwith the medial portion of the ribbon or tie A, is adapted to have the section 11 released and opened for the formin' of a bow C,'the knot D of which is su sequently clamped between the sections as illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2, so that the how when formed is held against accidental untying. The section 11 may, and preferably has secured to its under face an ornamental cover or shield 18, which in addition to adding to the attractiveness of the device when applied to the shoe, also conceals from view the knot D.
In use after the device is associated with the tie or ribbon, as illustrated in Fig. l, it will be noted that the device serves to prevent accidenta-l displacement of the ribbon or tie from the eyelets E of the upper. The user then ties the bow C in the usual manner after which the section 11 is swung downwardly over the knot and the member 16 is engaged with the member 15 to hold the same in clamping or bracing relation.
Whatis claimed is:
1. A clamping device for a shoe t-ie or ribbon, including a pair of hingedly connected section, one of which is attached to the tie or ribbon intermediate its length, and interengageable means at the free end of said sections for connecting the same in embracing relation to the knot of the bow formed by the tie or ribbon.
2. A clamping device for a shoe tie or ribbon, including a pair of hingedly connected sections, one of which is attached to the tie or ribbon intermediate. its length, and interengageable means at the free end of said sections for connecting the same in embracing relation to the knot of the bow formed by the tie or ribbon, the said device being disposed on the tie or ribbon between the shoe eyelets to prevent accidental displacement of the tie or ribbon.
3. A clamping attachment for shoe lacings of the character set forth, including a.
' pair of hingedly connected sections, one of which is attached to the lacing and the other of which co-operates with the first-mentioned section to embracingly engage the JOSEPH MASCALI. PAUL ROMA.
