PATENT OFFICE,
ACHILLE SAMMARTINO, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
RING.
Application filed September 24, 1926. Serial No. 137,550.
The invention has reference to finger rings, and the ob ect is to economize in material used in making the rlng, to reduce the cost of the article, but at the same timeto add to the weight and therefore the appearance and the value of the ring. I
To the attainment of the above the invention consists in the peculiar and novel construction of the ring and in the peculiar and novel method of makingthe same as hereinafter described and definitely claimed.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 .is a side elevation of a ring in accordance with this invention.
Figure 2 is an approximately central longitudinal sectional view therethrough.-
Figure 3 is an end view with parts broken away and parts in section.
The shank 1 of the ring is provided with a widened or thickened portion that provides the base 2. a central opening in the usual manner for the reception of the gem.
In carrying out the present invention the shank, at its juncture with the base has its inner face cutaway atthe opposite sides of the said base, as indicated by the numerals 3.
' The shank on its said inner face is provided with depressions a that enter the said cutaway portions 5 Received in the opening in the base 2 there is the rectangular body portion 5 of a lining (S. From the body the lining is flanged outwardly, as at 7, to contact with the projecting sides of the base 2, and from thence the said lining is formed with oppositely curved side portions 8 that arereceived in the openings 3 in the shank 1. The ends of the sides 8 are formed with tongues 9 that arereceived in the depressions 4 in the shank. The lining issoldered or otherwise effectively secured in the shank and in'the base 2 of the ring. Arranged over the base and over the substantially rectangular body portion 5 of the lining there is a bezel plate 10 which is soldered to the outer edge of the body portion 5 and to the base 2 of the ring. The gem is inserted in the bezel and The base is formed with -the bezel while the upper flange contacts with the gem and holds the same in the box and frame portion of the lining.
The improvement materially adds to the weight of the ring, adds to the appearance thereof and increases the value of the ring and the simplicity and advantages of the construction will, it is thought, be perfectly apparent to those skilled in the art to whichv such invention relates.
Having described the invention, what is claimed is r V v 1. A ring having a hollow base which is widened outwardly from the shank of the ring, the shank of the ring from the opposite sides of the base being cutaway and the said shank having depressions that communicate with the said cut-away portions, .1 lining for the shank, including a box-like portion that is received in the opening in the base, and having an outstanding flange to overlie the base, the opposite sides thereof being arched to be received in the said cut-away sides of the shank and the ends of the said arched portions having tongues to be received. in the depressions in the shank, a bezel arranged over thebase of the ring and the box-like portion and a box over the bezel and-said lining, said bezel being soldered to the base of the ring and to the lining, and said box having a flanged portion which rests on and which is soldered to the bezel. 2. Asring including a shank and a hollow base, san arched lining over-part of the inner wall of thefshank having a radial portion extending into the hollow of the base, said arched lining having portions inset in the shank and secured to the shank, a bezel plate soldered to the said lining extension and to the said base. I I
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
