l,This invention relates to Window7 screens, y and an object of the invention is to provide l a. rolling screen which may be adjusted as desired, and is movable independently of movement or' the Windovv'sash, being vcarried by a spring roller detachably supported at.
the top of the Window frame either'inside or outside of the Window as desired.i Y, Another object of this invention isto rovide a rolling Window7 screen 'structure W lich includes channel members in which the edges of the screen engage, andV to provide guides in theV channel members over which reinforcing plates carried by the edges of the screen are 'movable to provide smooth and unimede'drnoveinent of the screen during 'adjustment, and also tovprevent 'buckling or crimping of the edges and adjacent portions of the screen. y f 20. A further object of the invention is to provide a novel forni of latch mechanism for holding the screen in adjusted position.`
Other objects of the invention Will. appear inV thefollovving ldetailed description-taken v' in connection with thej accompanying drawings wherein Fig. 1 is a front elevation of thefscreen. Fig. 2 is a vertical section taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1. l y Fig. 3 is a perspective vievv` of anattaching bracket used in connection with lthe screen. n
Fig. 4; is a perspective view of another attaching bracket used in connection with the screen.
Fig. 5 is an enlarged detail elevationof a part of the screen lock or latch structure. Fig. 6 is an enlarged detail section on the line 6-6 Oi.: Fig. 1. Fig. 7 is a perspective view of one of the guides of the screen structure.
l Fig. S is a detail perspective view ol oneof the edges of the screen.
Fig. 9 is a section on the linen. 9 Fig. 5. Y Y
Referring more particularly to the drawings, the improved rolling Window screen comprises, preferably, a spring roller lof any approved construction `Whichhas a wire screen 2 attached thereto in thefusual inanner. Brackets 3 and 4 are provide-d `for attachment to a Window frame A for detachably supporting the roller 1 and these brackets are provided respectively with an open socket 5 opening out through its upper side and with a l cylindrical socletfi, The brackf ets 3 and 4 may havelate'rally turned attach# ing 'portions 7 formed thereon, as `shown in dotted lines "in F and 4 of the drawings or rthey *may* bestraight as shown in solid lines in said figures', and' provided With'at- Jcaching vopenii1gs'8 dependingupon the type of Window rvame'avithwhich the device is used.` vChanneled guides 10ffare provided Whichextend lvertically alongfthe window frame A`,"afnd Aifit is so desired a cross channeled housing may bev'provided for en- 'closing the roller 1. The vertical guides 10 :comprise channel'plates' 12 Aandthe angle plates y13 -vvhi'ch are attached tothe windovy7 framev Afin vspaced relation to provideV the 'guidingispacesgo'richannels 14 in which the 'edges lof the screen 2'are': mounted. The vertical edges ofthe screen 2 are Vreinforced by' strips'15 of flexible'm'etal, 'Which' strips 'are in turnbraced at spaced points by transverse braces 16, the ends'of which Iare angled as shown at 17 for engaging along the edges ,of the guides 18, asclearly'shovvn in Fig. 6
'of'thedrawings The guiding strips 18' are carriedy by the innerA sidesof the plates 12 and 13j The outer pointed edges 20 of thev channel plates 12 are provided with a plurality of spaced openings 21 which' are vadapted to receive the latch bolts r22 to releasably hold the screen 2in adjusted positions.y The latch vbolts 22 are slidably carried by suitable guide blocks 23 and they are urged into -latching p isition by lmeans of springs 24.
A thumb button 25 is ycarried by each yof l the bolts`22 and is movable in a slot 26 to permit-individual adjustment of the latch bolts on the opposite sides of the screen. To permit unitary movement ofl the latch bolts, they cach have connected thereto, by n'ieansof the threaded ends 2701i the stems 23. bars 29 which are in turn leccentrically connected to a Adisc 30. The disc 30 is ro 9 ofA tatably 'supportedby the bracing platesv 31 which are attached to the lower edge of ther screen 2. and which has a thumb nut 33 carried thereby to facilitate its rotation.
The disc 30 is provided with a notch 34 in its perimeter which is adapted to receive the bill 35 of the pawl 36 for locking the bolts 22 in screen unlocking position. i
Transversely bent flanges 37 are formed on the lower edges ofthe plates 31 and they are provided with openings 38 intermediate their ends which are adapted to receivek the hook end of a md, 4.0' te Permit the reach.'
ing and lowering of the screen when the lower edge is at its uppermost position. A suitable socket l1 is carried by the channel u'iei'nber l2 .lor normally supportinlg4 the rod ll0. l n
It it is so desired t'hescreen 2 may be reintorced by longitudinal. and transversely extending strips el?) of flexible inetalto prevent buckling of the screen'.
From: the foreoroing. description taken in connection. with the accompanying drawings itj will be apparent that the improved screen may be quickly and easily attached either to the. inside or to the outside of a` Window construction, and that it also may be easily adjusted independently oli4 movement of the window into open or closed; or partially openedI position being. securely held in posimeant: el." the latchV bolts 22 which latter may be operated" independently by u'ieans ctitlhe thuuibinenibers 25 or in unison through vthe inediuinot the disc 30;
lt ist of. Course,.tof be understood that the .invention muy be' constructed in otherinanners and the partsassociated in different relations and,.- theretore, I do not desire to be limited. in any manner exceptas set. forth in the claimj hereunto appended.
Haring' thus described iny invention what I claim is :V-
` lgnl coinbimitirm', latchingmeans for a window screen including` substantiallyV channel shapedy guiding inenibers extending. alongir ci'irresponding edge portions of aI screen member andy having openings 'orined therein, a bracing' plate adapted to be attached to the lower edge portion of the screen inem bei,A guidi-nef blo having open ends and ada1 ted to be carried bythe bracing plate at opposite endY portions thereof, latch bolts slidably associated with the guiding blocks, and" having end portions adapted for projection through the openings, spring ineinbers operable on the latch bolts for urging the end portion ol' the latch bolts into projecting;` position through the openings, said `guidingv blocks having;` openings in the face thereof, handle portions on.l said' latch' bolts protrudin'g;` through said' openingsl and adapted' for manipulation to move the' ends of said latch' bolts 'from projectingposition through the openings, andv nie/ans for c'onnectingr the latch boltsn for sin'iultaneous opera.- t'ion pernntting the end portions tobe' rinoved 1u unison'f-rom proJect'ingv position' through .the openings', said means including; a disc' rotatably supported by the bracing' plate and' having :L notch formed i111 the riin thereof, rod ineinbers having end' portions eccentri'eally connected' to the disc andopposite end portions connectedl to the latch bolts,
and a member pivotally connected to the; bracing plafte and having;A a? billy adapted for engagement With the notch, substantially as described. Y
In testimony whereof I aixiny signature.
