Should the plunger with its sound chamber and valve tend to rotate in the casing and throw the arm 30 out of alignment with the cams 35 and 36, the projection 37 on the arm 30 may engage the ribs 38 and thus substantially prevent any such rotary movement of the plunger. The sound chamber is cut away or recessed at 39 in order to provide ample space to accommodate the valve arm 30. One of the cars 26 has an integral bent over portion 40 which acts as a stop to limit the opening movement of the valve 28. That is, the stop 40 carried on the sound chamber and plunger prevents the valve opening too wide and confines the movement of the arm 30 within suitable limits. The open end of the casing is shown covered with a perforated cap 41, through the perforations of which the sound is emitted.
In operation, with the parts as shown in Fig. 2, the plunger comprising the weighty member 8 and parts carried thereby will. slide down and descend in the casing by gravity. This causes the bellows 11 to gradually collapse and force the air therefrom through the reed pipe into the sound chamber. If the valve 28 is closed the escape of air will be so slow that the reed will not speak. When however, the plunger descends far enough for the cam 35 to engage the arm 30 and open the valve the reed will speak and utter a sound like ma for example, the termination or interruption of which sound is effected when the plunger descends to a point where the projection 37 slides off the cam 35 and the valve 28 drops under its own weight by gravity and closes the sound opening 24. When the plunger descends a slight distance 36 will engage the projection 37 on the arm 30 and again open the valve causing a sec ond but longer sound, like ma for example, to be heard. In this form the depending circular flange on the member 8 is rabbeted or cut away at 42 forming a smaller circular flange of less diameter at 43. The flange 43 is provided with a peripheral groove and the upper end of the tubular bellows 11. is slipped over the flange 43 and firmly bound in the groove 44 by an encircling wire 45.
While I have thus described my improvements in great detail and with respect to preferred forms, I do not desire to be limited to such details and forms since many changes may be made and the improvements embodied in Widely different forms without departing from the spirit and scope thereof in their broader aspects. Hence I desire to cover all modifications and forms coming within the language or scope of any one or more of the appended claims.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: i
1. A sound device having in combination a casing closed at one end, a plunger adapted to slide by gravity back and forth axially of the casing, a flexible tubular bellows member one end of which is connected to the casing ad acent the closed end thereof and the other end of which is connected to said plungcrr a sound chamber on the opposite side of the plunger, a reed pipe carried by the plunger. and operatively associated with said soundchamber whereby the reed thereof will speak upon a rush of air from the bellows through the reed pipe into the sound chamber, said sound chamber having a sound opening, a flap valvefor opening ing, saidvalve being pivotally mounted and having an arm rigid therewith, extending toward the bellows, and a cam member ex tending along the wall of the casing and plunger, a reedpipe one end of which is conlUn the side thereof opand closing said opcn-' which the sound waves from having two cam projections adapted to suecessively engage said arm to open the, valve as the plunger slides by gravity inthe easing.

A sound device having in combination a casing closed at one end, a plunger adapted to slide by gravity back and forth axially of the casing, a flexible tubular bellows member one end of which is connected to the casing adjacent the closed end thereof and the other end of which is connected to said plunger, a sound chamber on the opposite side of the plunger, said sound chamber being formed of a metal cup shaped member having a depending peripheral flange clampingly engaging the plunger, a reed pipe carried by the plunger, pipe communicating with said sound cham her and the other end of saidreed pipe communicating with said bellows whereby the reed thereof will speak upon a rushof air from the bellows through the reed pipe into the sound chamber, said sound chamber having'a sound opening, a flap valve for opening and closing said opening, said valve being pivotally mounted and having an arm rigid therewith and a cam member extending along the wallof the casing adapted to engage said arm to open thev valve as the plunger slides by gravity in the casing.

A sound device having in combination a tubular casing closed at one end, a plunger adapted-to slide back and forth in the casing axially thereof, a flexible tubular bellows member having one end secured to the casing adjacent the closed end thereof, said plunger being recessed thereof and a circular member holding the other end of the tubular bellows member firmly in said recess of the plunger, and a reed pipe operatively associated therewith and adapted to speak upon operation of the bellows bythe plun er. and'means for interrnpting the sound from the reed pipe during the movement of the plunger in one directiom'said means comprising a cap memher on the opposite side of the plunger from 7 said circular member and-forming a sound chamber carried" by the plungerand the reed pipe rigid therewith extending one end of said reed" the sound from said reedon the bellows S1Cle" into issue, said sound chamber having an opening, a valve for closing said opening and a control member on the side of the casing for actuating said valve.

A sound device having in combination a tubular casing closed at one end, a plunger ada iite'dto slide back and forth in the'casing, a reed pipe carried by the plunger and adaptedto speak upon compression ofair in the casing due to movement of the plunger therein, a flap valve carried by the plunger and adapted to control the sounding of said reed pipe, said flap valve being pivoted adjacent the wall of the casing and having an arm toward the closed end of the casing, and a cam member on the wall of the casing adapted to engage said arm to operate the; valve as the plunger moves axially of the casing.
7. A sound device having in a tubular casing closed at one end, a plunger adapted to slide back and forth in the casing,
a reed pipe carried by the plunger and adapted to speak upon compression of air in the casing due to movement of the plunger therein, a sound chamber carried by the plunger and into which the sound waves from the reed pipe issue, said sound chamber having a sound opening therein, and a flap valve controlling said sound opening and adapted to control the sounding of said reed pipe, said flap valve being pivoted adjacent the wall of the casing and having an arm rigid therewith extending toward the closed end of the casing, and a cam member on the wall of the casing adapted to engage said arm to operate the valve as the plunger moves axially of the casing.

A sound device'having in combination a tubular casing closed at one'end, a plunger adapted to; slide back and forth in the casing, a reed pipe carried by the plunger and adapted to speak upon compression of air in the casing due to movement of the plunger therein, a sound chamber carried by the plunger and into which the sound waves from the reed pipe issue, one end of said reed pipe communicating with said. sound chamb'erand the other end of said reed pipe communicating with the space in the casing in" which'the air is compressed by the plunger, said-sound chamber having a sound opening. therein, and a flap valve controlling said sound opening, and; adapted to control the sounding of said reed pipe, said flap valve being pivoted and having an arm rigid thereith' extending adjacentthe wall of the easing, and a cam member on the wall of the casing adapted to engage said arm to operate the valve as the-plunger moves axially of the casing. saidcam member comprising a metal stripinsert'ed-ln the casing wall and extendng inthedireetionof the movement of the plunger.

A sound device having in combination combination *of which is secured sound chamber having a tubular casing closed at one end, a plunger adapted to slide back and forth in the casing, a tubular bellows member, one end of which is secured to the plunger and the other end to the casing, a reed pipe carried by the plunger, a pivoted flap valve carried by the plunger and adapted to control the sounding of said reed pipe, said flap valve having an arm extending therefrom toward the bellows end of the casing and adjacent the wall of the casing and a cam member on the wall of the casing adapted to engage said arm to operate the valve as the plunger slides in the casing.

A sound device having in combination .a casing closed at one end, a plunger adapted to slide back and forth in the casing, a reed pipe carried by the plunger and adapted to speak upon con'ipression of air in the casing due to movement of the plunger therein, said plunger comprisinga circular men'lber, a sheet metal cap on the circular member and forming a sound chan'iber into which the sound waves from the reed pipe issue, said sound chamber having a sound opening, a plate extending around said opening and provided with ears, said plate being secured to the sound chamber by the upturning of the sheet metal at the opening over said plate, a flap valve for closing said opening, said valve being pivotally mounted on said ears and having a arm extending adjacent the wall of the casing, and a cam on the wall of the casing for engaging said arm to operate the valve.

A sound device having in combination a casing closed atone end, a plunger adapted to slide back and forth in the casing, a reed pipe carried by the plunger and adapted to speak upon compression of air inthe casing due to movement of the plunger therein, said plunger comprising a circular member, a. sheet metal cap on the circular member and forming a sound chamber into which the reed pipe issue, said a sound opening, ears projecting from said cap member, a flap valve for closing said opening, said valve being pivotally mounted on said ears and having an arm extending toward said circular member and closed end of the casing and a cam on the wall of the casing for en gaging said arm to operate the valve.

A sound device having in combination a casing closed at one end, a plunger adapted to slide back and forth in the casing, a reed pipe carried by the plunger and adapted to speak upon compression of air in the casing due to movement of the plunger therein, said plunger comprising a circular member, a sound chamber thereon into which the sound waves from the reed pipe issue, said sound chamber having a sound opening, a pivoted flap valve for closing said opening, said valve having an arm extending toward sound waves from the movement of the said circular member, said sound chamber being recessed to accommodate said arm and a cam on the wall of the casing for engaging said arm to operate the valve.

A sound device having in combination a casing closed at one end, a plunger adapted to-slide back and forth in the casing, a reed pipe carried by the plunger and adapted to speak upon compression of air in the casing due to movement of the plunger therein, a pivoted flap valve carried with the plunger and controlling the sound from the reed pipe, said valve having an arm extending toward that face of the plunger posite to the face on which the valve is located, and acam on the wall of the casing for engaging saidarm to operate the valve.

A sound device having in combination a casing closed at one end, a plunger adapted to slide back and forth in the casing, a reed pipe carried by the plunger and adapted to speak upon compression of air in the easing due to movement of the plunger therein, a pivoted flap valve carried with the plunger and controlling the sound from the reed pipe, said valve having an arm extending toward that face of the plunger which is opposite to the face on which the said casing being apertured on the side thereof and a cam memberextending within said aperture and secured to the casing and cooperating with said arm to operate the valve as the plunger moves in the casing.

A sound device having in combination a casing closed at one end, a plunger adapted to slide back and forth in the casing, a reed pipe carried by the plunger and adapted to speak upon compression of air in the casing due to movement of the plunger therem, a pivoted flap valve carrled with the plunger and controlling the sound from the reed pipe, said valve havlngan arm extendmg ad acent the wall of the casing, and a plurality of cam projections carried on the casing wall and adapted to engage said arm successively to successively open said valve, said cam projections being formed on a sheet metal strip extending in the direction of plunger.

A sound device having in, combination a casing closed at one end, a plunger adapted to slide back and forth in the casing, a reed pipe carried by the plunger and adapted to speak upon compression of air in the casing due to movement of the plunger therein, a pivoted flap valve carried with the plunger and controlling the sound from the reed pipe, said valve having an arm extending adjacent the wallv of the casing, said casing being apertured on one side thereof, and a cam member secured to the casing and having a plurality of cam projections extending within said aperture to engage said arm to successively operate sald valve as the plunger moves along the easlng.

A sound device having in combination a casing closed at one end, a plunger adapted to slide back and forth in the casing, a reed pipe carried by the plunger and adapted to speak upon compression of air in the casing due to movement of the plunger therein, a pivoted flap valve carried with the plunger and controlling the sound from the reed pipe, said valve having an arm extending ad'acent the casing'wall, the wall of said plunger and controlling casing being cut away on one side, and a sheet metal cam member located thereat for engaging the arm of the valve to operate the valve.

A soun device having in combination a casing closed at one end, a plunger adapted to slide back and forth in the casing, a reed pipe carried by the plunger and adapted to speak upon compression of air in the casing due to movement of the plunger therein, a pivoted flap valve carried with the the sound from the reed pipe, said valve having an arm extending adjacent the casing wall, the wall of said casing being cut away on one side, and a sheet metal cam member located thereat for engaging the arm of the valve to operate the valve, said cam member having a plurality of cam'projections adapted to engage said arm and also stamped out projections for aligning the cam member with the cut away part of the casing.
