These two bars are connected the one with the other by a rear plate 13 (Fig. 3) or the like,which has hook-shaped lateral extensions 14 en gaging studs or screws 15 fixed in the type chase. The. guide path 10' with all the elements directly connected to the same may thus be easily removed from the type chase so that the machine can also be used without the address printing device, i. e. only for printing a permanent or fixed text. In this case it is merely necessary to insert a chase of larger size instead of that bearing the guide path 10, and it will thenbe possible to utilize the entire space which is at disposal for the printing of the permanent or fixed text, for instance when the rear side of a sheet of letter paper has to be printed with such a text.
The container for the address printing plates 12 is formed by a guide path 16 upwardly inclined in rearward direction (Fig. 2). In this path .16 a slide 17 is mounted, a stud 18 of said slide projecting through a longitudinal slot in the bottom plate of the guide path 16. A pull cord 19 is attached to the stud 18, and this cord 19 slides over an idler 20 rotatably mounted on the press frame. The other end of cord 19 is wound around a spring barrel 22 which latter may be wound up by means. of a key 21, said spring barrel 22 being rotatably mounted on an arm 23 of the press frame. By the spring barrel 22 and the pull cord 19- the slide 17 is permanently pulled as far as possible forward in the guide path 16, the address printing plates 12 in front of said slide 17 being thus pressed against the front outlet end of guide path 16. On this front outlet end of the container or guide path 16 a projection 24 (Fig. 2, 4 and 5) is arranged at its bottom plate, the lower edge of the foremost address printing; plate 12 bearing against said projection. In order to lift the address printing plates 12 separately one after the other over this projection 24 so that they may drop into the guide path 10 leading to the printing position or point, a hook or nose 25 is arranged which is adapted to be moved to-and-fro in a vertical direction. This, hook 25 is arranged on the upper endof a rod or arm 26, the lower end of which is raised and lowered from the driving mechanism of the machine in a mannerwhich .will hereinafter be more fully described. When the hook 25 is ascending it lifts the foremost address printing plate 12 over the projection 24 at the front end of the container 16, as shown in Figs. 4 and 5. When the hook 24 descends again with the rod 26 the address printing plate 12, which has been just lifted above the projection 24, slides over a curved portion 27 of the projection 24 so that it is separated from the hook 25 and can freely slide into "the downwardly directed guide .path 10 as indicated in Fig. 2 in dash lines:

The tops of stops 29 are yet slightly raised in this turning movement and therefore correspondingly raise or rock the plate 12 resting upon them, the adhesion between this plate and the'sup port 11 being suppressed thereby. -,If desired support 11 may be arranged to be able to make itself a slight rocking or backward movement for attaining the same purpose.
The plate 12 freed from the stops 29 will then slide down under the action of its own gravity in the guide path 10. The lower end 35 of this guide path is bent in rearward direction. Below this lower end 35 the .receiving container for the address printing plates is to be arranged, which is not shown in the drawing and into which the plates.

On the main driving shaft 9 of the printing press an arm 36 (Fig. 2) is fixed which carries on the up er side a roller 37 pushing at every turn of arm 36 against a roller40 mounted on the lower end of an arm 38 of a bell-crank lever pivotally arranged by means of a-.shaft 39 at the press frame. The other arm 41 of this bell-crank lever taperedor steppedat its free end 42 (Fig. 8). Beside arm 41 an arm 43 is arranged parallel to arm 41 said arm 43 being loosely mounted on the shaft 39. -When sleeve 46 is on the arms 41 and 43 in the position shown in Fig. 2, these arms are coupled with one another, so that at the upward movementof arm 41 under the action of roller- 37 pushing against roller 40 of arm 38, the arm 43 is moved too, and rod 26 is raised. By this raising of rod 26 the foremost address printing plate 12 in the container 16 is lifted by means of hook 25 over the projection 24, the stops 29 being at the same time turned backwards, so that they will release that address printing plate 12 which has 'just before been used for printing, said plate then slipping down into the receiving container not shown. At the following downward oscillation of arm 41,
which if desired may be effected by means of a spring, the arm 43, coupled with arm 41 by the sleeve 46 when. the latter is in the position shown in Fig. 2, will .be moved in such-a way that rod 26 is lowered and liberates the previously lifted foremost address printing plate 12 of container 16, so that this plate will enter the guide path 10 and slip down in printing position before support 11, where it is securely held by the stops 29 which in the meantime have advanced again under the action of spring 32.
When, however, the printing operation of the printing press is stopped in the well known manner, whilst the driving mechanism of the printing press continues to operate, the sleeve 46 is at the same time shifted by the eccentric 51 through the intermediary of arms 53 and 49 on the arms 41, 43 in such a manner that the sleeve 46 will assume the position shown inFig. 6. The tapered or stepped end 42 of-arm 41 then can move idlyup and down within the sleeve 46 without aflecting the arm 43 loosely mounted onthe shaft 39. The consequencm will be that rod 26 and stops 29 will not be operated during this time, so that no fresh address printing plates may come from container 16 into the guide'path 10. By

Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my said invention,
I declare that what I claim is:-
1. In an addressing device for prmting presses for printing of fixed text with changeable address, a container for the address printing plates supplied for printing,
said container beingarranged below the inklng means for the inkln rollers ofthe'prmt- 'ing press and behind. tie printing plane of the press, the delivery opening of said container being arranged in the printing plane of the press, a guide path for the address printing plates below said delivery opening of said container, said guide path being inclined in such adegree to the horizontal direction that said address printing plates will slip along said guide path downward into printing position under the action of their'own gravity.

In an addressing device for printing presses for printing of fixed text with a container for the address printing plates supplied for printing, said container being arranged below'the inking means for the inking rollers of the printing press and behind the printing plane of the press the delivery opening of said container being arranged laterally of the printingisurface of the printing press servi'ngfor printing the fixed text, and close to the upper end of for the address printing plates below said said printing surface, a guide path delivery opening of said container and be-.
side said printing surface, said guide path being inclined in such a degree to the horizontal direction that. said address printing plates will slip along said guide path downward into printing position under the action of their own gravity and, a movable stop within'said guide path below the printing position.- I 3. In an addressing device for printing presses for printing of fixed text withv changeable address, 'a-"gcontainer for the address printing .plates supplied for printing, said container beingarranged below the inking means for the inking rollers of the printingpress and behind the printing plane of the press the delivery opening 0 said container being-arranged immediately above the printing surface of theprinting press serving for printing the fixed text, a guide path for the address printing plates below said delivery opening of said container and beside. said printing surface, said guide path being inclined in such a degree to the horizontal direction that said address printing plates will slip along said guide path downward into printing position under the action of their own gravity, a movable stop within said guide path below the printing position, said'guide path being curved rearwardly below saidprinting position in such a manner that said address printing plates when. released by said stop after printing will drop to the rear under the action of their own gravity.

In an addressing device for printing presses for printing of fixed text with changeable address. a container for the address printing plates supplied for printing, said container being arranged below the inking means for the inking rollers of the printing press and behind the printing plane of the press the delivery opening of said container being arranged in the printing plane of the press, a guide path for the address printing plates below said delivery opening of said container, said guide path being. inclined in such a degree to the horizontal direction that said address printing plates will slip along said guide path downward into printing position under the action of their own gravity, a projection arranged at said delivery opening of said container for holding the foremost address printing plate within said container, a"lifter for raising said foremost plate over said projection, means for moving said lifter up and down, said means being controlled by the actuating mechanism of the printing press.

In an addressing device for printing presses for printing of fixed text with changeable address, a container for the address printing plates supplied for rinting, said container .being arranged low the inking means for the inking rollers of ,the printing press and behind theprinting :plane of the press, the delivery opening of.

degree to the horizontal direction that said rod being controlled by the actuating mechanisnr ofthe printing press, a projection on said rod, said pro ection coming into engagement with said stop when said rod is being raised.
9. In an addressing device for printing presses for changeable address, a container for the address printing'plates supplied for printing,-
