The present invention relates to that type of mopping devices especially adapted for use in connection for the cleaning of car bodies, furniture, or other' objects.
In connection with the construction of such contrivances, it has been customary to fixedly mount the cleaning devices .on a suitable handle, tubular or not, and the handle,
when tubular, was constructed `so as to be directly fitted to the water hose or other liquid-carrying flexible tube, with or with.- out an intermediary joint, so that when another cleaning instrument was to be mounted on the end of the hose, the main liquid-supply-valve had to be previously closed, this operation often requiring` the operator to leave the placeof operation, in order to stop the flow of liquid,` thus causing considerable inconvenience. f
The object of the present invention is to provide a suitable Vmopping device which avoids such inconveniences and saves considerable time as it is constructed in such a manner as to be easily interchangeable with other cleaning instruments, without the necessity of dismounting the handle piece from the water conducting hose, the single valvecontrollcd tubular handle being adapted to receive other cleaning instruments.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a mop in which the mopping head is constructed of suitable length, and is mounted on a supporting frame of elongated loop shape, the said frame being adapted to be readily removed, or to have its fibrous mop changed for other niops, when it has become too dirty or worn out. The construction, further, though giving the mop a very desirable shape, does not permit, however, of the mop head to accidentally slip from the frame, during use.
An embodiment of the present invention will be described hereinafter, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure l shows an elevation, partly in section, of a tubular handle on which a mop embodying the present invention is fitted.
Figure 2 shows in side elevation, also partly in section, a detail view of the mop shown in Figure 1, without the handle.
Figure 3 is a. transverse sectional view taken on line 3 3 of Figure 1.
The handle 1 is in the form of a metallic tube, provided with a frusto-conical ridged mouthpiece at one of its ends, which 1s 102,5277, and in Italy September 30, 1925.

To the other end of the tubular handle 1, a sleeve 3 is suitably fastened, the hole in the said sleeve being suitably threaded in order that the threaded nipples of the different cleaning instruments can be screwed therein, in a manner as the mopping device shown, Figure 1.

This mopping device, embodying the present invention, preferably comprisesa threaded stem 3', formed integral with, or ti htly fastened to a suitable perforated blo: or sleeve 1l forming a jointing sleeve between the said threaded tube 3 and a hollow delivery tube 12 closed at its free end and `provided with a number of small perfor-ations or ports 18 by one of its sides. The sleeve 11 is further provided `with two Sockets Aor recesses 11 parallel to and on opposite sides of the central water passage 12', and two radial threaded perforations 13 opening into the said sockets and adapted to receive set screws 14 for fastening the end portions of the mop supporting-frame, 13. This frameis constitutedof a looped metallic rod 13, which is suitably constructed of a metallic bar of suitable length, curved at its middle so to have a U-shaped configuration and the free ends of the U being further suitably curved so as to have at the ends two parallel portions 13 considerably nearer together than the wings of the U. As may be readily seen, this form permits of a very great simplification of construction and, as will be better seen hereinafter, allows a quick and easy dismounting of the mop heads which arethus interchangeable with one another.
The fibrous mopping elements comprise a mass of cotton strings 16 disposed in layers between folded strips of fabric 15, the stri s so prepared being cut in lengths slight y greater than the length of the U-shaped supporting frame. The edge portions of the strips are suitably bordered, and after be ing folded lengthwise to receive the strings 16 are stitched together, so as to leave a tubular part, in which the U-shaped frame is positioned, and if desired the free edges of the fabric strips may be tied together by passing a line or band through the holes 17. The out-projecting cotton strands may also be suitably tied together' by a narrow band, so as to form a more compact spongy mass, as shown in Fig. 3.
Y The free ends of the mop .frame 13V are then fitted in the sockets 11 in the sleeve 11 and fastened thereto by means of set screwsv 14. In operation, the threaded stem of the mopping device is screwed into the sleeve 3 of handle 1, controlled by valve 2, and by opening the said valve, liquid under pressure is sprinkled through small ports 18 in the blind tube 12', towards the spongy mass of strings 16 of the mop head, which thus becomes wet and allows an easy washing: of the car body or other device. f v
Owing to the above construction, the mop 15, 16 and iframe 13 are easily dismounted and 'replaced by other mops, when required, which is very useful when one mop is too dirty or worn. out, or also when a suppl-ementary cleaning with mops, either wet with liquids other than water and non-i'nixable` therewith, or also required.
Furthermore, the special forni of mop, which is .somewhat narrow, and elongated in sha-pe, permits of -an easy cleansing of the perfectly dry, should be interstices, etc., while on the other hand it is not 'possible to adopt for such aform the usual methods of mounting of the ino p head on a supporting frame'l open at its outer end, as in such case the fibrous mop would easily slip away, during` the cleansing.
Having thus fully described the invention what is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is 1. A device O'f the character described, including a fibrous mop fabric having a tubular edge, a U-shaped frame on which the tubular edge of the mop fabric is threaded, a supporting block for removably receiving the yends of the fiume, set screws for re leasably securing the ends of the frame in the supporting block, the block being` pro` vided with a central longitudinal ope-ning, a blindv tube engaged with the block andl lying betweenl the sides ofthe frame and. having,r a series 'of small perforations on the side face of the fibrous portion of the mop fabric, and a threaded nipple extending from the opposite side of the block and in alignment with the longitudinal opening, substantially as and for the purposes set forth. An arrangement as claimed in claim 1, wherein the ends of the U-shaped rod forining the frame project from one end in spaced? paralleli relation, whilev the block is provided on opposite sides with the central longitudinal opening with socketsl for accommodating said ends: ofthe frame which ends of the frame are adapted to be freely engaged by the set screws so as to'be releasably retained in position.
