CARD REGISTER) Y Application filed iruiy 29, 1925, Serial No. 46,733, and in sweaen August 23,1924. 7
- This invention has reference to a card registerv in which the cards are not placed in boxes or cases, but are joined together into a band, strip or chain, .to be rolled upon and off'of rollers, and are to be deposited rolled up. When a card is to be read, or anything annotated on it, the roller which contains 1 the card in question, is placed on a shaft, which together with still another roller and 10 shaft, is adapted to be journaled in a box or frame, whereby the card chain can be rolled onto, or off of said rollersin such way that any card in the chain can be brought into visible position. r I The shafts may either be turned byhand, .or bymeans of a small electric motor. In the former case, it is advantageous to use agearing between the crank-and the shafts, whereby the shafts are given sufficient speed. The card register as per this invention offers many advantages in comparison to such registers as keep the cards in boxes or cases. Separate cards cannot be removed from the collection, or be exchanged, as easily and unnoticeably as in other systems. The rolledu chain can be sealed, and all unduemanip nfation is thus excluded, unless the seal be broken. The card register consequently offers the very best security against illegitimate or criminal manipulations, which makes is especially usable in bookkeeping.
' Another advantage; is that this card regis tercan be stored on shelves, or wherever space permits. Hereby the generally used and specially designed boxes will be unnecessary, which involves a great saving. Furthermore the -cards,when rolled up, require but little space and the register may therefore advantageously be used in cases where the registered material must be kept for future use, as in offices, archives, banks, etc.
In the drawings, Fig.1 is a side View showing two cards embodying the invention and connected together;
Fig. 2 is a perspective view on a smaller scale showing a complete card register em bodying the invention enclosed in a box or housing. v v The device comprises a box or casing 10 having an opening 14 in its upperface. The
' card register is in .the'form of a plurality of cards 15 which are joined together in the j be done is to sired for the card directly on the bridge .13,
form of a chain, these connected cards being rolled onto rolls carried by two shafts 6 and '7 Which arev journalled in'the box 10. The
Situated in the box beneath the side opening 14% is a rest or bridge 13. over which-the chain. of connected cards passes as the cards are rolled from one shaftonto the other. I
, The cards are connected together in a-special way so as to permit their being readily separated onefrom another if it is desired-at any time .to place additional cards in the register.
For this purpose each card is formed on one edge with a series of hook members 1,-each having a T-shape as best seenin Fig. 1, and onthe opposite edge each 7 card is formed with a serles of openings 2. Each of theopenings 2 has a wide portion of a width: to receive the'wide end of the T-shapedj projection and a-narrow'neck portion of a width to receive the neck of the projection. The projections 1 are integral with the card and lie'in the plane thereof. When a card is to be taken from or put into the chain of connected cards allthat is to place the card or the space deand then unhook the chain of cards atthis point.
jections as they can be readily hooked-into In thus disconnecting any two cards 1t 1s not necessary'to bend the hooks or roorflunhooke'd from the openings without bend ing. Moreover, during the use'of the cards these hooks are not bent and since this is so there is little likelihood that they will become broken.
.Having now described, my invention,-what I I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: i
. 1. Ina card'register comprising abox or casing and rolls journalled in said casing, a
plurality of connected-cards adapted to be wound on said rolls, each card having near .one edge a plurality of openings and at the opposite edge having integral therewith a plurality. of hooked member'slying in the plane of the card, saidopenings havinga shape corresponding to that of the hooked members, whereby said hooked members on one card may be interlocked with orseparated from the openings in the adjacent card without being bent.
2. In a card register comprising a box or casing having a sight'opening and rolls journalled in the casing, a plurality of 0011- nected cards wound on said rolls, each card at the other edge a plurality of T-shaped v projections which lie in the plane of the card and which are adapted to be detachably interlocked with said openings.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto signed my name. i
D. AG. ENGSTROM.
