GAS BURNER.
Application filed August', 1927, Serial No. 210,796, and in Germany Aulgust 6, 1926.
Gas burners are known with which the gas under pressure drives a ventilator wheel which draws 1n the combustion air and,
orces it into the combustion chamber. The invention relates to a new burner of this kind which, contrary to the known burners,
is also adapted for burning high-grade gases, for instance, coke oven gases.
According to thev invention, the gas after l0 being partially deprived of its pressure is conducted through a passage to a mixing chamber in order to 'deliver the air, the delivered air flowing into said4 mixing chamber through an independent passage. The l5 gas and air quently mixed in a suitable manner quite 1ndependently of the delivery device, and conducted to the combustion chamber. This makes it possible to eect the delivery of air by means of the energy contained in the gas, even when high-grade gases are burnt, and consequently to secure an automatic regulation of the burner without danger of the -lame being forced back against the wheel 26 and destroying the device.
The front portion of the air passage, or of the gas passage, chamber. In order to obtain a certain degree of mixing, exchange apertures may be 80 arranged in the divisoin wall between the two passages through which gas reaches the air passage, or air reaches the gas passage. 'Ihe portions of the burner facing the combustion chamber may be provided with a device for water cooling. Especially a conical hollow body connected to the water main may preferably be arranged in front of the center portion of the wheelv for protecting the wheel against the reacting heat, and de- 4o iecting the air stream to the side of the gas stream.
In the drawings,'various constructions of the burner are shown,
In the drawingsv Fig. 1 is a longitudinal section,
Fig. 2 is a cross section through one por tion of the burner,
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section of another construction,
Fig. 4 is a longitudinal section through a burner with water cooling, and
With the burner according to Figs. 1 and 2, a wheel 3, provided with gas inlets 2, and
carrying the ventilator blades 4 and the turbine streams are, therefore, Subsc-into the air passage.
may be used as a mixing.
The chamber 12 is inthe form of a central opening in the casing 1, which has an annular chamber surrounding the opening 12. From this annular chamber, to which the gas inlet 2 leads, in the wall of the casing, direct the gas against the outer vanes 5 to turn the Wheel 3, and thus cause the blades or van'es to draw 1n air through the inlet opening 12.
The casing is extended forward enveloping tubular member 6, and providing the passage 7, this passage contracting because the forward extended part of the casing 1 converges with respect to the member 6.
With the construction of the 'burner according to Fig. 3, the inner duct 6 is made shorter than the outer duct 11 so that the end of the outer duct serves. as a mixing chamber.
With the construction according to Figs. 4 and 5, a conical hollow body 13 is dis osed at the mouth of the linner duct 6 whic deflects the air in the direction of the gas passage, radiating heat. Similarly an annular hollow body 14 is disposed in front of the outer duct. The two inner spaces 15 and 16 of these bodies communicate through the duct 17. The cooling water irst enters the hollow body through the connection 18 whencel it flows through the duct 17 into the outer annular body 14 and then away through the connection 19.
I claim:
1. A burner comprising a casing having a central air inlet and an annular gas chamber therein surrounding said central air inlet, said chamber having nozzles through which gas may issue, a wheel having an outer series of vanes adjacent said nozzles and an the nozzles 10, provided certain degree ..95 thus protecting the wheel agalnst the -Iinner series of vanes ad'acent said inlet whereby gas acting u on t e outer series `of vanes may turn sai wheel to draw air through the inlet, and a tubular member in line with said inlet within the casing, the casing being extended to envelop said member, providing an annular passage between said member and the extended portion of the casing through which the gas is impelled, the air and gas mixing after the air enters the said member.
2, A burner eomprisino' a casing having a central inlet opening and nular chamber to which gas is admitted, a wheel having a series of blades in line with contalning an an# said opening, and a second series of blades surrounding the first series, the casing havin nozzles through which gas issuing from said chamber may be directed against said second series of b des, a tubular member in line with said inlet in which air is impelled by the first series of blades, the casing being extended to envelop said member, a hollow body adjacent the end' of said member, and means :for admitting a coolinfr iuid to said body and conducting it there rom.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aix my signature.
REGNIER EICKWORTH.
