- MARKING DEVICE FOR WRAPPING MACHINES. l
Application led April 2,6, 1927. Serial vNo. 186,631.
This invention relates to a marking desI vice for wrapping machines, its underlying object being to mark packages' products, such as loaves of bread, etc., while they are in a wrapping machine,l so that subsequently their age may be 'seen at a glance. l
pose must be changed .at least daily, and are often replaced twice a day, it is necesie sary that they be of simple construct-ion and. easy manipulation. \The present marking device is'in the form of a clip which c an be slipped -'on or off the package pushing lugs o a. package conveyor, such as that o i5 the we l known Armstrong bread'wrapping .machine, without tools and with but a single movement. As Athe finished packages are moved from thev wrapping mechanism by the conveyor, 2o by means' of pinsof various conformation or byAsharp projections of various forms provided on their contacting surfaces, leave an impression or indentation on the wrapper by which the date, or the time of day on which the package was made, can be readily identified.
In the accompanying drawings, inwhich like characters of reference indicate the same or like parts, Figs. land 2 are an end elevation'and a partial side elevation respectively of a conveyor -of the Armstrong type, which moves the finished packages from wrapping position to ldelivery position, 'and showing the date markers attached to the package pushin lugs; Fi s. 3 to. 6 are enl larged views. o one of t e conveyor lugs with Athe date marker thereon, showing the method .of its attachment; and Fi 7 to 12 are enlarged views of the date mar er, showing its construction and various markin s.
In carrying the` invention into effect, t ere place, 1t will indicate thatthe package' was is rovided meansrfor moving a wrapped article in a wrapping machine, and means carried by said moving means foif'marking the Wrappers of said articles during the moving operation.l `These means in/ay be varied in construction within the scope of lthe claims, for the specific device selected to illustrate the invention is but one of numerous, possible concrete embodiments of the same. The invention therefore is not to be restricted to ,the recise details offthe structure shown and ascribed.
Referring to Figs. 1 and' 2, the chains 1-1--14 pass over sprockets 15 and carry the of food.
Since marking devices for this puishaped that it-.can be readily slippedl over the markers on' the pus 'ng lugs,
To distinguish the packages wrapped-on different days, oridiferent packages of the same day, the contacting surfaces of the markers are provided with projections or sharp edges which will leave an impression for u'ture identification on the wrapper of the article moved by the lugs 16; In Figs.'
to 10,fa number of pins 25 are shown attached to the markersurface, in t is case a total of 12 pins being provided, 2. for each' day of the week. vWhen all 12 pins are .in
wrapped on Mondayqforenoon; 11 pins andone blankspace will indicate Monday afternoon; 10 pins will indicate Tuesday forenoon, and s'o on until one single pin will indicate Saturday afternoon. Instead of using the pins 25, however, elongated projections 26 may be punched and bent'out of the plaire of the markers, as shown ii Figs. 11 and 12, the number and configuration of 'these upstanding da s or y, riods. atfisclaimedis: Y." f v v l v '1. 'The combinationwi'th 'means for mov- 110 edges indicating different v for marking the Wrap-pers of said articles during the moving operation, said moving means including chains and article pushing lugs carried thereby, andsaid marking means being mounted on saidlugs. i
3. The combination With means for moving a Wrapped article in a Wrapping machine, of means carried by said moving means for marking the-W'appers of said artic-les during the moving opera-tion, said marking means having quick-detachable means 'for connecting it With said moving means.
4. The combination. with means for Inov-l ing a Wrapped article in a Wrapping ma.- chine, of means carried by said moving means 5. The combination with means for moving a Wrapped article in a wrapping machine, of means carried by said moving means for marking the Wrappers of said articles during the moving operation, said marking means having proJections for indenting said wrappers 6. The combination With means for moving a Wrapped article in a Wrap-ping ma.- chine, of means carried by said movlng means for marking the wrappers of said articles during the moving operation, said marking means having a nn'mberof project-ions for indenting said Wrappers and indicating by said numberthe time the article Was Wrapped.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification. MAX E. FOERNSLER.
