Description

A. KIRSHNER CHRISTMAS TREE SUPPORT Filed April 13, 1927 Patented Mar. 13, 1928.
UNITED STATES ABRAHAM KIRSHNER, or PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
cnms'rmnsarnnn surron'r.
Application filed April 13, 1927. Serial No. 183,266.
This invention, generally stated, relates to 7 an article of hardware and has more especial relation to a knock-down type of article which may be employed to, support 21. Christmas tree.
The leading object of the present invention may be said to reside in the provision of an article of the character stated formed of three pieces of metal which may be sold H) in compact form for a very small sum and which may be readily extended by the pur chaser to form a tripod effect for securing in position a Christmas tree.
A further object of the present invention .5 is to provide a metallic frame of the character stated having a base part the respeotive portions of which are pivotally secured together and the arms of which are bent at an acute angle with respect to the base parts, both the base parts and arms being adapted to be nailed to the floor or other support and the upper parts of the arms being adapted to be nailed to a Christmas tree.
Other and further objects of the present invention reside in the provision of general details of construction, arrangement, combination, and connection of parts for attaining the results sought by the leading object.
The invention consists of the novel con- 30 struction hereinafter described and finally claimed.
The nature, characteristic features and scope of the invention will be more fully understood from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, and in which:
Fig. 1, is a top or plan view of a Christ- Fig. 6, is a fragmentary view hereinafter referred to.
Figs. 7 and 8 are respectively cross sectional views taken upon the lines 7--7 and 88 of Fig. 4.
For the purpose of illustrating my invention I have shown in the accompanying drawings one form thereof which is at pros ent preferred by me, sincethe same has been found in practice to give satisfactory and reliable results, although it is to be understood that the various instrumentalities of which my invention consists can be variously arranged and organized and that my invention is not limited to the precise arrangement and organization of the instrumentalities as herein shown and described.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the
arms 5, the upper extremities of which terminate 1n vertically disposed extensions 6. The arms 5 in cross section, as clearly shown acute angle to the base membersto provide in Fig. 7, are providedwith longitudinally extended ribs 7 for reinforcing said arms.
, Adjacent the weakened lines 4 the said base members 1 and the arms 5 are apertured as at 8-9 so that nails, 10 may be driven through the apertures tohold the base part of the deviceto the floor 11. With the arms folded at an acute angle to the base members as clearly shown in Fig. 2, these apertures 8-9 are in alignment so that a nail may be driven through both of said members into the floor, as is best seen in Fig. 2. In practice the Christmas tree is positioned upon the central portion of the base members 1 and nails 12driven through the apertures 13 of the base members up into the tree'14. The extensions 6 of the arms 5 are positioned around the tree 14 and nails 15 driven through said apertures to securely clamp and hold the Christmas tree in upright position. In practice the Christmas tree support is made entirely of metal and each combined base part and arm are stamped from a single piece of metal with the ribs and nail receiving apertures as previously described. are pivoted together as at 2 it is readily apparentthat the device as a whole may be sold with the three arms and base partslongitudinally positioned in folded form and.
that after purchase the'customer may bond Since all the members and in\vardl about the weakened parts -l; to the position shown in Fig.
The showing in Fig. 6 is a deta l of one of the base members 1 detached with respect to the other base members. or in other words. prior to attaching the base ll'lQlIilJLlS together. The apertures 16 are calculated to receive the rivets 2 as shown in Fig. 3.
Itwill be seen trom Figs. 3 and atthat. the ends of two of the base members are bevelled as at 17. so that when they are turned in to operative position as seen in Fig. 3. said bevelled edges abut and when the nails 12 are driven throush the aligning holes 13, they not only secure the base members to the bottom of the tree but they lock the three members 1 in the position seen in Fig. 3.
It will be evident that F12. (3 shows the end of one of: the base members. while the end of the other two base members appears as seen at the right of: Fig. 11-. and in Fig.
Having thus described my invention. what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent. is:
1. In a device of the character stated. a tripod construction consisting of base memhers pivotally connected together at their innermost ends and havingtheir outer ends bent upwardly and inwardly at an acute angle to form arms. the extremity of each of which is bent upwardlv to form vertical extensions. the end of one of said base members being provided with four holes and the arms upwardlv the coaeting ends of the other two members being l)(\'ll(3tl and provided with two holes, the outer holes in said members aligning, when said members are in rmcrative position.
2. In a device of the character stated a tripod constructioi'l consisting of base members pivotally connected together at their innermost ends and havin their outer ends bent upwardly at an acute angle to form arms. the extremity of each of which is bent upwardly to form vertical exten ions. both said members and said arms being: ]n'ovidcd with longitudinal reinforcing ribs. an intermediate weakened portion and holes on each side of said weakened portion in proximity thereto. the end of one of said base members being. provided with four holes and the coacting ends of the other two members being' bevelled and provided with two holes, the outer holes in said members aligning. when said members are in operative posi tion.
3. In a device of the character stated. a plurality ot base members pivotally secured together. two of said members being provided with bevelled abutting: edges having. holes. and loirsritudinal stitlening ribs for the end portions of said members the latter heinc provided with transverse weakened portions intermediate said ribs and holes on each side of said weakened portions in pr ximity thereto.
In testimony whereof. I have hcrcunto signed my name.
ABRAHAM KIRSHNER.
