DEEP-WELL PUMP.
Application filed September 2, 1926.
This invention relates to improvements in deep well pumps of the type utilized in the lifting of crude oil.
The object ofthis invention relates prin cipally to means for increasing the inlet by the application of plate valves in lieu of the conventional ball and seat and the elimination of the tendency of the cage which is essential in the ball type of valve to mud up, by the provision of spaced stud bolts which act as guides for the plate valve.
Another object resides in the USGOTf a rubber packing of the form common in the swab art in place of the usual cup packer whereby the destruction of the working barrel by the sand is avoided.
Other objects will more clearly hereinafter appear by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part ofthis specilication and wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding partsthroughout the several views, in which:

Figure 5 is a section on line 55 of Figure 1 Referring more particularly to Figure 2, the working barrel is shown positioned within the casing and having its working face flush with the inner face of the casing by means of the joint collar A which is provided with the threaded oil-set portion a which accommodates the casing section B as well as the working barrel 0. In this illustration the valve is shown to include'oppositely extending perforated ears through which the stud bolts K extend and by means of which the valve is guided in its movement from the seat formed at the upper edge of the externally threaded pipe section M. This pipe section M is threaded into the upper extremity of the passage formed in the piston section G and extends beyond the upper surface of the latter a substantial distance. The contacting face between the valve seat and the valve may be bevelled as shown to secure a more perfect seating of the moving element.
The swedge nipple N which forms the connection between the upper piston element and the lower piston element is substantially identical with the nipple F but is not provided with ports corresponding to the ports 7 in the upper nipple. The valve member and the piston assembly is substantially identical.
A valve corresponding to the valves heretofore noted is provided at the up er end of the casing section connecting the ower end of the working barrel, as shown at P and a similar valve Q, as shown in the last section of the disclosure of Figure 2", is placed at the bottom of the tubing'and operates in the nature of the conventional foot valve.
The entire assembly is clearlyobvious by an examination of Figure 1 and the function and operation of the various parts will be more clearly seen from this illustration.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and useful and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. In a deep well pump, a reciprocating member including connected pistons, each of said pistons including spaced metallic sect-ions, one of which is provided with a fiat reciprocating valve and a cylindrical rubber between said sections.
2. The substance of claim 1 characterized in that the plate valve is carried at the upper extremity of each piston and is limited and guided in movement by a pair of cars engaging spaced studs.
3. The substance of claim 1 characterized in that the plate valve is carried at the upper extremity of each piston and is limited and guided in movement by a pair of-spaced studs, the plate valve seatlng on a cylindrical'valve seat, the seating face of which is spaced from the piston. I
4. The substance of claim 1 characterized in that a swedge nipple is connected to the upper end of each reciprocating member 5. The substance of claim 1 characterized in that the spaced metallic sections areconnected by a pipe section on which is arranged the cylindrical rubber, and the cylindrical rubber is formed to coincide with the faces of the metallic sections.
6. The substance of claim 1 characterized in that the spaced metallic sections are connected by a pipe section on which is arranged the cylindrical rubber.
7. In a deep well pump, a reciprocating member comprising a pair of spaced cylindrical metallic members. a reduced pipe section connecting said cylindrical members, a. cylindrical rubber section positioned on the pipe section, areciprocating plate valve on the upper cylindrical member and having apertured ears and studs mounted in the up per face of the cylindrical member for supporting and guiding the plate valve by passing throngh said apertures.
8. The substance of claim 7 characterized in that the upper cylindrical member is provided with a cylindrical valve seat for the plate valve and the valve seat has its seating surface spaced from the upper face of the metallic member. i
9. The substance of claim 1 characterized in that a swedge nipple is connected to the upper end of the upper metallic section and is formed with discharge ports, and a second swedge nipple connects the upper me tallic section to the lower metallic section.
