face plate removed and showing the parts in the unlocked position.
Fig. 3 is a. similar view to Figure 1 showing the parts in the locked position.
Fig. 4 is a similar View to Figures 2 and 3 showing the parts in the double locked position. I
Fig. is a plan sectional view on line 5-5 Fig. 2.
Fig. 6 is a vertical sectional view on line 6-6 Fig. 3.
In the drawings like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure. I
1 indicates the main casing body of my lock provided with a rectangular interior 2 having an extension 3 forming with the face plate 4 a bolt orifice, such orifice being located interinediately of the height of the interior 2 so as to form above the orifice a shoulder 5 and a recess 6 below the orifice for a purpose which will hereinafter appear. 7 is a bolt provided with an inward extension 7* offset upwardly from the body of the bolt 7 so as to form a shoulder 7 opposing the shoulder 5, and a shoulder 7 for a purpose which will hereinafter appear.
2* is a groove formed in the face of the interior of the lock case and extending 1ongitudinally thereof. 9, and 11 are a series of cylindrical tumbler members, the lower peripheral portion thereof fitting within the groove 2 and the upper peripheral portion against the lower edge of the extension 7 of the bolt 7 The upper portion of each tumbler member 9, 10 and 11 is increased in width as in dicated at 9*, 10 and 11 so as to bear respec tively against the base of the casing interior 2 and the inner face of the face plate 4. Each tumbler member is provided with a key receiving orifice designated respectively 9, 10 and 11, the inner or cylindrical portion of which is in central alignment with the corresponding portion of the key openings 4*, and 4 of the face plate 4.
12 is a p n extending radially from the tumbler 11 and adapted to be swung into engagement with the inner end of the bolt extension 7*. The tumbler 10 is provided with. a radial pin 13 extending into the-recess 1 1 of the bolt extension 7*, and 15 is a pin extending radially from the tumbler 9 and normally in a horizontal direction into the recess 6 beneath the bolt 7.
Having described theprincipal parts involved in my invention I will briefly describe the operation of the same.
When it is desired to lock the door the key is inserted in the key orifice t and into the orifice 1.1 of the tumbler 11. The keyis then turned to swing the pin 12 into engagement with the rear end of the bolt extension 7 so as to force the bolt forward, the slot 14 permitting this movement without affecting the pin 13.
\Vhen it is desired to unlock the door the key is inserted into the orifice 1" so as to pass into the orifice 10 of the tumbler 10 which is then swung in a rearward direction so that the pin 13 engages the inner end of the slot 14 thereby forcing the bolt in an inward di rection carrying the pin 12 back to normal.
After the bolt has been shot as above described by means of the pin 12 coaoting with the bolt extension 7* the bolt may be double locked by inserting the key in the orifice 1" so as to swing the pin 15 into engagement with the shoulder 7. i
From this description it willbe seen that I have devised a very simple construction of lock which any unauthorized person would find difficult to operate as he would be uncertain into which key orifice the key should be inserted in order to operate the lock to unlock the door, and at the same time I provide a lock in which there are no parts liable to get out of order or break.
What I claim as my invention is:
1. A lock comprising a main casing, a face plate therefor having a plurality of key orifices formed therein, a bolt slidably mounted within the casing and a plurality of tumbler members having key orifices therein corresponding to the orifices of the face plate, and a pin extending radially from each tumbler member, one of said pins being adapted to engage the inner end of the bolt to move it in the locking position and another of said pins ill) flees formed therein, a bolt slidably mounted within the casing and having a shoulder formed therein a tumbler member mounted in the casing provided with a pm adapted to be carried into and out of engagement With the aforesaid shoulder when the tumbler 1 member is swung by the, inserted key, and separate tumbler members also operated by the inserted key for carrying the bolt lnto and out-oi the locking position respectively.
