Another objectof theinvention is to provide a device otthe character describedin which the trap member is also arranged to serve as a .dust cover for the containerwhen the brush is inserted therein. y

A further object of the invention is to provide a container and a liquid applyingn eans ceptacle for a liquid.

The invention "possesses other ob'ects and featuresofadvantagesome' of which, with the foregoing, will be setforth-in the i'o]- arranged to cooperate to provide 'a sealed relowing description of the preferred forin of' my invention which is: illustrated in the drawings accompanying and-forming part ofthe specification. It is to be, understood that I do not limit myself to the showing made by the said drawings and description, as I may adoptvariationsotthe preferred form within the scopeofmyinventio'n as set forth in the claims.

As illustrated in the drawings, the device liquid thereon tendsto fall onto the hands of my invention comprises a liquid container 6 and a brush 7 for use in applying liquid therefrom. The container 6 is here shown in the form of a cylindrical can having the top 8 thereof provided with a threaded opening 9 in which a correspondingl threaded cover 11, preferably of considera ly less diameter than that of the can, is arranged to be engaged. In the present embodiment, the can top 8 is inclined conically inwardly from the top edge 12 of the can to cause the positioning of the opening 9 considerably below the plane of the edge 12 with the result that a'structure results which will prevent spilling of the contents of the can when tipped on itsside, even'though it be filled to a the level of the bottom of the opening 9,

It will now be noted that the device oi my invention would prove or particular value to plumbers, electricians, or other mechanics who have occasion to use a brush only intermittently, as in wiping joints, and thus have particular need of a brush kept wet with the liquid to be applied. Also, since mechanics must frequently work in awkward positions, the protection from drip when the brush is inverted is of vital importance. Furthermore, the lnon-spillable features of the container of my invention make it particularly adapted for use by such mechanics and for carrying it in a mechanics tool box since it may be safely placed in any position in which it will lit. And since placing the brush in the can automatically provides a dust cover therefor, possible contamination of the liquid is reduced to a minimum. 7

I claim: a

1. A liquid containing and applying means comprising a container having the top thereof sloping downwardly to a centrally disposed opening provided therein, a brushhaving a handle extending therefrom, a cover for said container arranged to operatively engage in said opening and provided with a perforation extending. transversely there through and in which said brush handle is arranged to be fixed, and a liquid trap carried on said handle outwardly of said cover and arranged to intercept liquid falling from said brush when said brush is in inverted position, the edges of said trap being arranged to lie within the area of the top of said container when said cover is operatively positioned thereon.

A device of the character comprising a liquid container provided with a cover, a brush and ahandle extending from opposite sides of said cover, and a liquid trap lixed on the extending end of said handle outwardly of said cover and provided with a cavity encircling said handle and opening toward said cover, the edges of said trap being arranged to lie within the area of the top of said container when said cover isoperat-ively positioned thereon.

3. A device of the character described comprising a cylindrical liquid container provided with a cover, a brush fixed to said cover, a handle fixed to and extending from said cover on the opposite side from said brush, and a conical trap surrounding said handle outwardly of and opening toward said cover.
