.Application filed September 26, 1925. .serial No. 58,812.v
This invention relates to belt buckles.- Objects of this invention are to 'provide a buckle which lwill cooperate ,with the standard type of belt in a novel manner, and which will automatically lock the belt in adjusted position without requiring the operator to manipulate any tongue or fastening member, and to provide a belt which will unlock automatically when the belt is manipulated in a certain predetermined manner. l
Further objects are to provide a belt buckle in which all of the operating parts are hidden by the front of the buckle, and -in which avery pleasing and attractive apl pearance is produced by this construction.
An embodiment of the inventionis shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a front view of vthe buckle applied to a belt. Figure 2 is aV sectional-:viewgson'the line 2-2 of Figure l. f Figure 3 isa rear View of. the buckle detached from the belt. .A l
Referring to the drawings, it will be seen that the buckle comprises a main or body portion consisting of an outer plate l having inwardl turned upper and lower fian'ges 2. Prefera 'l these fianges are made integral with the iiace of the buckle and also the face is preferably curved, as illustratedA in Figure 2, to accommodate itself to the curvature of the body.
A latch is pivotally mounted between the flanges 2 and comprisesl an inwardly turned short arm 3 preferably provided with teeth adapted to bite into the nonadjustable end 4 of the belt. This arm is integrally connected with a longer arm 5 to permit manipulation of the latch, It is to be noted from. 40 Figures 2' and 3 that when lthe latch is in its normal'or ylocked position that the arml 5 contacts with. the inner face of the plate 1. The other end of the buckle is provided with. a pintle pin 6 upon which afluted or corrugated roller 7 is mounted. Preferably, this roller is formed by a rolled portion of sheet metal and the metal is continued outwardly to form a narrow attaching tongue 81 such tongue bein curved inwardly towards the plate 1 when 1t' is in its normal position.
In using the Vbi1ckle,-the free end of the strap, 4,;s passed .betweenthe luted orcorrugated' roller'7 and the plate 1 and slides over the arm 5 of the latch.` motion of 'the belt causes the roller'ftofrotate ina 55 counterclockwise direction, vasviewed inFigure 2, and to thus rock the tongue 8 upwardly l l and permit the free insertion of the belt end,
-l-lowever, when the desired adjustment has been made, the belt end is permitted to.`slide outwardly a slight distance, thus rotating the roller in the opposite direction and forcel the tongue 8 against the belt end. j
The tongue 8 seats within one of the aperf tures 9 formed in the belt end, and locks the 65'- belt temporarily in the desired adjusted' position without requiring any manipulation on the part of the operator.
Preferably an eyelet, such as indicated at 10, is formed upon the body portion adjacent 7o one end thereof, preferably the right hand end, when it is in position upon the wearer. This eyelet is adapted to receive the watch chain and forms a very simple and e'ective means of attaching the watch. l
It will be seen, therefore,'that a very simple type of buckle has been provided which functions in a vnovel and serviceable manner to lock the belt in position, and it will be seen further thatthe latch for locking the buckle to any desired belt strap aids also in Y deflecting the end of the belt to prevent eritangling of such end with any portion of the buckle.
Although thek invention has been described in considerable detail, it is to be understoodl that the invention may be variouslyv embodied and is, therefore, -to be limited only as claimed.
l claim: The combination of a belt having an apertured end and having a plain end, of a buckle consisting of a body plate Vhaving rearwardly' directed flanges, a latch pivoted between said flanges and adapted to engage the plain end ofthe belt, said latch havinga manipulating arm adapted to contact with the inner surface of the body plate and form a deflecting member for the free 'apertured end of the belt, a pintle pin extending between said 100.
anges, a roller mounted uponsaid pintleA ment of said belt, said roller and tongue pinv and having corrugations therein .and being integral and formed from sheet metal. adaptedto receive the apertured free end In testimony that I claim the foregoing I 10 of the belt between itself and the body plate, Y have hereunto set my hand at Milwaukee,
5 said roller having a curved projecting tongue in the county of Milwaukee and vState of adapted to project into an aperture in said Wisconsin. belt when said roller is rotated by the move'- l ADAM PRIMAK. e
