This invention relates to ornamental fixtures and particularly toan improved construction thereof, a corner lamp for enclosed vehicle bodies to which the present invention is applicable, being illustrated in the drawings and described in the following specification as a typical example of such fixture.

Heretofore changes in the design of an ornamental fixture such as a corner lamp have always been made by altering a portion ofthe same, each alteration and design irre ective of its ma nitude necessitatin the construction of a new die. Constructing a new die every time a small changein design is made is very costly, and it is, therefore, the principal object of this invention to provide an ornamental fixture which only necessitates the insertion of an ornamental portion to change the design of the exposed surfaces thereof, and does not necessitate the changing of the exposed surface proper.

Another object is to provide an ornamental fixture having an exposed surface provided with an aperture,'and having an ornamental insert adapted to be positioned underneath the exposed surface whereby a portion of the insert is Visible through the aperture in the exposed surface.

Another object is to provide an ornamental clamp fixture with an exposed apertured rim surrounding the transparent portion-thereof, an ornamental insert being provided underneath the rim,'portions of which are visible through the apertures in the rim. I 1

Another object is to provide an ornamental lamp fixture with an exposed rim having apertures formed thereinand a continuous insert positioned below the rim, embossed designs on the insert extending into the apertures in the rim.

These being among the objects of the pres ent invention, the same consists of certain features of construction and combinations of parts to be hereinafter described with reference to the accompanying drawings, and then claimed, having the above, and other objects in view. i

lamp construction which is taken as, a typical example of an ornamental fixture, comprises two unitaryassemblies, namely, a lamp base and a cover which'are secured together to form the complete lamp structure.

' The lamp base as shown in Figures 2 and 3 consists of a deep rectangular-shaped housing 20 open at one side and containing a lamp socket 22 extended through and secured to an end wall thereof, a suitablelamp bulb 24: being retained in position by thesocket 22. A pairof upstanding oppositely extend ing ears 23 are struckparallel to the flanges 21 from the metal of the same at opposite sides-of the housing 20, as shown in Figures 7 and 8,to'provide an attaching means,';t he purpose of which will be described later in The lamp cover comprises a retaining rim 25- for the glass cover and a back plate 32.

Theretaining rim 25 is formed with a central opening 26 to receive a transparent glass 27, the edges of which are flanged at 28 and seat against the edge-of the rim 25 forming the opening 26.
