MULTIPLE SOCKET AND PLUG- DEVICE.

This invention relates to a combinedmultiple socket and electrical'connection plug member whereby to adapt a single cut out in an electric circuit for the connection of one or two electric translating devices instead of one of said devices for which said cut outs are arranged, and it is, the object of themvention to provide a combined multiple socket and separable plug device which is novel and attractive in appearance, simple and cheap in structure, durable, and withall' of the parts and the electrical connections thereof united in positive insulated relation from each other into a rigid compact 1 n te-' gral one piece structure with no possibility of the electrical connections becoming loose.
In carrying out the invention I provide a pair of metallic shell electrically connected in end to end axial relation and electrically connect a contact blade to one of the shells to extend laterally thereof to constitute a contact terminal member of a separable plug member combined with the shells- A second contact blade is arranged with means at one end to extend from the opposite faces thereof to constitute the center contact terminals of the sockets. The connected shells-having the. one contact blade connected therewith arranged as-a unit and the other contact blade are then arranged in a suitable mold with the blade contacts in parallel and spaced relation with the end contact terminals of the one blade arranged axially ofand projecting into the inner ends of the shells, when in sulating material is molded about the exterior of the shells with the connection thereof with the one blade contact and the endof the other blade carrying the center contact terminals for the shells'in. imbedded relation in said material thereby uniting the whole into a compact integral one piece structure.

In the embodiment of the invention shown in the drawing a body of molded insulating material, such as bakelite, condensite and the like 6 has exteriorly imfbedded therein a pair of terminal contact members in the form of threaded shells 7, 8, said shells being 7 arranged in axial end toend spaced relation with the insulating material 6 molded in the space between the inner ends of the shells, as shown at 9, to constitute the end wall of the shells, the inner ends of the shells being flanged inwardly, as at 10 and 11. The insulating material is preferably arranged with an annular portion 12 to extend beyond the outer extremity ofthe contactmembers with the rough edges of said members imbedded in said material. The shells are arranged in'rigid electrical connection by a pin 13 having the opposite ends shouldered for engagement in perforations in the shell flanges 10, 11 and the material of the ends upset to rivet the shells to thepin, as shown at 14, said pin being imbedded" in the in sulating material 6. The device is adapted to constituteone member of a separable plug or for connection to acut out in an electric circuit and for this purpose the insulating material is molded intermediate its ends 12 with the laterally projecting part 15, which is preferably of circular shape or may be of any other conformation tomate with the other plug member. A second contact blade 18 is bent midway its ends, as at 19, to offset the one end of the blade relative to the other, as clearly shown in Figures 2 and 4, with the-one end embedded in the insulating'material and the oppositeend projecting laterally therefrom in parallel and" predetermined spaced relation to the contact blade 16. The contact blade 18 constitutes the other contact member of the plugportion. The contact blade 18 at the end imbedded in the insulating material is arranged with means to constitute the end contact terminals of the shells or sockets, said means being shown as consisting of a pin 21 with the ends projecting from opposite sides of the blade and axially into the inner ends of the shells. To assure the electrical connection of the end contact of an electric lamp or connection plug inserted into the shells with the contact pin 21 yielding or springy contact members 22 are secured to the ends of the pin. These contactmembers are constructed of sheet metal with a perforation 23 at one end for mounting the same upon the ends of the pin 21. After the contact plates 22 have been arranged upon the ends of the pin 21 washers 24 are placed on the pin outside of said contact members and the ends of the pins upset to rivet said contacts 22 thereto when said contact plates are bent to the position shown in Figure2. The connection of the contact plates 22 with the pin are arranged inrecesses 25 in the insulating material at the inner ends or the shells Where;

Having thus described my invention I claim: 7
1. As a new article of manufacture, a combined multiple socket and plug member, comprising a pair of metallic shells arranged end to end in axial and spaced relation and in electrical connection with each other, a
contacts for the shells, and insulating material molded exteriorly of the shells with the shells and the portion of the contact members extending laterally of the shells in embedding relation thereto.
2. As a new article of manutacture,a combined multiple lamp socket and separable plug member, comprising a pair of metallic shells; means to rigidly and electrically connect said shells in axial end to end and in spaced relation; a blade having an annular portion at one end and connected to a shell by engaging a portion of the latter in said annular portion with the other end of the blade extending laterally of the shell; a second blade; a pin carried at one end of said latter blade with the end projecting from opposite sides thereof, said blade being arranged in parallel spaced relation to the first blade with he pin extending axially of and into the shells to constitute end contact terminals of the shells; and insulating material molded exteriorly of the shells with the connection of the one blade and shells andthe pin carrying end 01 the other blade in imbedded relation thereto with the i 1 ends of the pins projecting from said material into the shells. a

As a new article of manufacture, a combincd multiple lamp socket and separable plug member, comprising a body of insulating material having a pair of electrically connected and end to end axiallyarranged threaded shells exteriorly surrounded by said material and having the connection thereof in imbedded relation thereto; a'contact blade electrically connected to a shell with said connection imbeddedin the insulating material and said blade extending laterally of the material between the shells; a second contact blade imbedded at oneend in the insulating material with the opposite end extending laterally therefrom in parallel spaced relation tov the first blade. said secondblade carrying a pin at the imbedded end with the ends of the pin projectingfrom opposite sides of the blade to exposed posiyielding contact members attached within the shells to the pins carried by the one contact blade. 1
