ARTHUR WADSWORTH, or roar THOMAS, KENTUCKY, assrenon To THE wens- WORTH VVATCH CASE COMPANY, OF DAYTOTI, KENTUCKY, A CORPORATION OF KEN- TUCKY.
ADJUSTER r011 META BAnDs.
Application filed June 15, 1927. Serial No. 198,9 82.
This invention relates to metal bands worn with wrist watches, and has for its primary ob ect the provision o t an ad usting means whereby a metal band of a given width may be used with watch cases of varying widths. Another ob ect of this lnvention 1s that the ad ustmg means also acts as a filler between the edges oi the metal band and the protruding lugs ot the watch case, thereby giving a more pleasing appearance in the jointurebetween the metal band and the watch case. i
v Still further objects'ot this invention are to provide an adjuster for metal bands,
which will be simple, efficient, durable and economical to manufacture.
Other objectsand advantages will be in part indicated in the description and in part rendered apparent therefrom in connection with the drawing.
This invention consists in the provision of a pair of tubular acljustinginembers each having a plurality of slotted recesses in one end thereof of differentdepths" whereby metalbands of varying widths may be neatly' and snugly inserted and pivotally attached between the pin bar attaching lugs of a wrist watch. 7
To enable others skilled in the art to fully apprehend the underlying features hereof that they may embody the same in the various ways contemplated by this invention, drawings depicting a preferred typical construction have been annexed as a part of this disclosure, in which:
stalled on one end thereof;
Fig. 2 is an enlarged isometric view of one of the adjusting sleeves partly broken away and shown in vertical section;
Fig. 3 is a plan view of a watch case having pin bar attaching lugs thereon and showing the inner ends of the metal bands provided with the adjusting sleeves which are positioned between said lugs;
Fig. 4 is a vertical cross section of one of the adjusting sleeves, pin bars and metal bands taken on line 4 4 of Fig. 3;
Fig. 5 is an isometric view of the looped end of one of the metal bands, part of the band being broken away;
Fig. 6 is an isometric view of one of the pin bars;
Fig. 7 is an enlarged view showing two a purposes I have chosen of the pin holding lugs, two of the adusting sleeves, one of the pin bars and the looped end o1 one of the metal bands, the
parts shown in horizontal section taken on line 77 of Fig. 8; and
Fig. 8 is a side QlGVELtlOEIOT tllQ parts shown in ig. 7. I
In the embodiment of my invention as illustrated and which shows a preferred construction, I provide a watch case 1 of any suitable size or shape but for illustration j a rectangular shape. Usual pin bar attaching lugs 2 are inounted upon the ends 3 and 4, respective- .5 with transverse holes 5 which detachably receive pins 6 of the usual pin bar 7.
The parts thus far described are of th usual and well-knownconstruct-ion. It has been the practice in the pastto supply leather straps provided with looped ends forreceiving the pin bars 7 and in this way attaching said leather straps to the pin bar attaching lugs 2. ltecently, however,
there has been a demand created for metal j flange 10, as clearly shown in Figs. 2 and 7, Fig. 1 1s a view 111 perspective showing a wrist watch case having my invention 111- to form a neat and close fit with the attaching lugs and pin bar and on their inner ends with a. plurality of slotted recesses 11 of difl'erent depths to permit a metal band of a given width to be attached to watch cases of varying widths. The inner ends of metal bands 8 are bent upon themselves, forming loops 12 (see Figs. 4 and 5) which loops are for the purpose of receiving pin bars 7. It will also be noticed that looped ends 12 of metal bands 8 are slightly cut away at 13, thereby reducing the width of said looped ends relative to said bands, which cut away.
of said watch casel"an'd are provided I and pin bar that one of the slotted recesses 11 fits over the edge 15 of said hand. Then place another adjusting sleeve 9 over the opposite endof said loop 12 so that one of the slotted recesses 11 fits over edge 16 of said band, whereupon the band may be securely at.- tached to the pin bar attaching lugs '2 by depressing pins 6 until the flanges adjusting sleeves 9 fit betwe n Said lugs, whereupon said pins 6 are forced outwardly into holes 5 of said lugs 2 by coil spring 14 within said pin bar 7, as is clearly shown in .Fig. 7. As the width between the lugs 2 of watch case 1 varies, a band 8 of a given width may be snugly attached therebetween by the adjustment of sleeves 9, as for example, should the metal bands 8 be of a narrower width than the distance between the lugs 2 the adjusting sleeves 9 may be so placedupon loop 12 of said band 8 that the smallest slotted recess 11 may be inserted over the edges 15 and 16 of said band, thereby giving a snug fit between said band 8 attaching lugs 2.
It will be understood that certain changes and modificationsof the invention can be made Without departing from the scope or spirit thereof as defined in the claims.
What I claim as newand desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In combination with a watch case hav-- ing lugs and a pin bar adapted to engage said lugs, a metal band having a looped end and adapted to receive said pin bar mounted in said lugs and a pair of sleeves each having one end slotted to engage the respective 10' of said said lugs, a metal band havinga loopedend shorter than the width of said band adapted to receive said pin bar mounted in said lugs,
and a pair of sleeves each having one end slotted to engage the respective edges of said metal band to cause a snug fit between the band and lugs, for the purposes specified.
5. In the combination as specified in claim 1, wherein one end of each sleeve is inturned for the purposes set forth.
I 6. In combination with a watch case having lugs and a pin bar adapted to engage said lugs, a metal band having a looped end adapted to receive said pin bar mounted in said lugs, and a pair of slotted sleeves mounted on said pin bar: and engaging said metal band one of which sleeves is provided with a plurality of slots of varying depths to engage the edge oisaid metal band whereby a band of a given width may be attached to watches having lugs spaced apart toditferent widths.
