PERPETUAL CALENDAR.
, Application filed Fchruary26, 1927. Serial 1170. 171.229.
This invention relates to a perpetual calendar designed to beplaced on the tops of I desks and the like to indicate the monthsand days of success1ve yearsr The principalobject of the present invention is to provide a perpetual calendar em= pear when the followingspecification is read in connection with the accompanyingdrawing, in.which Figure 1 is aperspective view of a calendar embodying the features of thepresent invention.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a collective view of the month indicating disk, the plate which carries the disk, andthe tubular members around which an endless strip bearing numbers denoting days is passed.
Fig. 5 is a rear view illustrating more clearly how the month indicating disk is connected with the plate.
The device includes a casing made up of two parts, a part and a part 11. The part 10 is stamped, bent and formed from a single piece of metal to provide a front portion 12, side portions 13, top portion or flange 14, lugs 15, and the front portion 12 having a small sight opening 16, a comparatively large sight opening 17, and an indenture 18. The front portion 12 is also cut out as at The front portion 12 being cut out as at 19 provides members 20 which with the bottom edges of the side portions 13 provide means upon which the device in its entirety stands, with the front portion 12 inclined. The part 11 is in the form'ot' an open sided box, which is stamped and formed from a single piece of metal. The said part includes a back 21 and wall portions 22. The lower wall portion 22 is cut out as at 23. The part 11 fits between the top of the flange 14, lugs 15,-and the side portions 23 and is releasably held in place by indentations 24 respectively in the side portions 13. These portions are slightif; in erder to alt-aw the part 11 to be put in place. A transparent panel of celluloid 25 is arranged within the casing adjacent-the sight opening 17. The panel 25 has a slot 26 therein. Stamped bent and formed from asingle piece of metal, .therevis provided a plate 27 havingtop and, bottom flanges28 and 29 respectively and rearwardly directed portions 30,30 and 31 at-each end of the plate, acentralarbor 32, an,op,en. ing 33 near the top,-and a slot 34 at thebQt tomof theplate which opens into the bottom flange 29. Aqdisk 35 is provided, the circumferential edge of which is provided with twelve projections 36, and one face .of the disk has printed thereon matter denoting the monthsof a calendaryear, in abbreviation. These abbreviations 37 are arranged circumferentially with respect to the projections 36. ,The disk 35 is jassociated with the plate-27 by -virtue of the arbor32 which extends through the hole located cen trally of the disk, and the tension member-38 which is held in place by small clips 39 struck up from the arbor 32. These clips engage notches in the opposite sides of the tension member 38. The disk 35 may be rotated with respect to the plate 27 and will be under a the influence of tlie tension member 38 which releasably retains thedisk in different positions to which it is moved It will be seen that the abbreviations 37. appear at the opening 33 in the plate, and that the projections 36 are adapted to pass through the slot 34. The plate 27 and its disk 35 are arranged in the casing, which brings the opening 33 in the plate in registration withv the small opening '16 in the front portion 12 of the casing. The projections 36 on the disk 35 are adapted to pass through the cutout 23 in the bottomflange 29. It will now be understood that each of the projections 36 may be thumhed to effect the rotation of the disk 35. The indenture 18 is provided with an abutment 40 which is encountered by the thumb in the movement of the disk which will insure registration of one of the abbreviations 37 with the aligned openings 16 and In order to denote the days of the calendar year, there is provided a strip of paper or appear in abbreviated, form on the frontv portion 12, as at 43. The strip 4? is passed around the plate 27 and tubular members 44 rotatably retained in place by the portions 30, 30 disposed respectively at the upper and lower ends of the related tubular member, and portion 31. The opposite ends I of the strip 40 are pasted together as at 45.
. is effected by a lug 46 secured to the strip in any suitable manner. The said lug 46 ex tends through. the slot 26 in the transparent panel so that it may be thumbed to elite: the movement of the strip.
I claim:
1. In a perpetual calendar, a casing having a sight opening, a transparent panel having a slot arranged adjacent the sight opening, a plate arranged within the casing adjacent the transparent panel, a separate roller at each end of the plate, an endless strip passed around the plate and rollers,
each of said rollers beingkept in place for rotatory movement by portions of the plate and the strip, said strip having numbers on one face thereof denoting days of the calendar months, and a lug on said strip which extends through said slot for effecting the adjustment of said strip.
2. In a device of the class described, a casing having a sight opening, a separate transparent panel fitting within the casing, disposed adjacent the'sight opening, and
having a slot therein extending longitudinally of thefpanel, a separate plate fitting within the casing, an endless indicia bearing strip, separate rollers, there being one roller at each end of said plate, each roller being kept in place for rotatory movement by angularly disposed portions on the related "end of the plate and said endless strip to allow movement of the strip whichencircles the rollers and plate, a portion of the endless strip being disposed adjacent the sight opening in the casing and visible through said transparent panel, and a lug on the endless strip extending outwardly through said slot for moving the endless strip.
