s. LEVINE ET AL WINDOW SCREEN Filed April 1., 1927 ATTORNEY I to provide on a screen of this type means Patented Feb. 21', 1928.
UNITED'ST'A wrnnow sonnnn.
Application filed April 1, 1927. Serial No. 180,212.
An object of the invention is to provide a screen of this type with improved means whereby the screen sections are caused to engage each other and prevent the passage of flies or other insects between the screen sections.
It is a well known fact that a screen of this type as ordinarily made is more or less imperfect in its operation, and certainly this is true after the screen has been used for a period of time. The screen sections, or more particularly the netting. sections, stretch, or the parts sag or warp so that a space is provided between the screen sections 1 through enter, and it is the purpose of our'invention which may be adjusted from time to time as may be necessary to maintain the screen sections at all times sufficiently tight and close together to prevent the passage of flies or other insects between lVith these and other objectsin view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and'combinations of parts, which will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings- Figure 1 is a view in elevation showingthe improvement attached to a screen of the sliding or adjustable type;
Figure 2 is an enlarged fragmentary view in vertical section on the line 2-2 of Figure 1; I
Figure 3 is an enlarged fragmentary view in horizontal section on theline 33 of Figure 1.
A and B represent the two sections of the screen having sliding engagement with each other, and each section comprises an outer vertical bar 1 fixed to horizontal bars 2 and 3 at their upper and lower ends, respectively, the said bars of the respective frames keyed to slide relatively to each other.
which the flies or other insects may the screen sections.-
space which may Each frame section has an inner bar 4, and the bars 1, 2, 3 and 4.- of the frame sections are connected by wire or other netting 5.
In the operation of this type of screen, the sections move relatively to each other and the inner portions of the screen sections overlap, and it is the purpose of our invention to provide means which prevent any spreading orseparation of the screen sec tions at their overlapping portions to exclude flies and other insects.
Our improved device may be either of the screen sections but we have shown the same attached to the section B, Y and as a mounting for the adjustable means we'provide, preferably, U-shaped straps (3 which encompass the'upper and lower bars 2 and 3 and; to which strap 6 a bar '7 is Tss PATENT arm' carried by secured, preferably by rivets or other securvide a series of set screws 12 which are threaded in the bar 7 and at their inner ends engage the strip 9 so that when these screws are moved inwardly they will force the strip 9 against the netting and press the netting sections together and effectually close any exist sufiiciently to allow for the passage of flies and other insects.
The strip 9 is preferably provided with sockets 13 in which the inner ends of the screws 12 are seated, as clearly shown in Figure 2.
While we have illustrated what we believe 7 to be a preferred embodiment of our invention it is obvious that various changes and alterations might be made in the general form of the parts described without departing from our invention, and hence we do not limit ourselves to the precise details set forth but consider ourselves at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly .fall Within the spirit and scope of the appended claim.
WVe claim: In a removable portable extensible window screen construction, the combination with two sliding sections, a bar fixed to one section, a strip located between said bar and SAMUEL LEVINE, JOHN LEVINE.
