PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES ROY JACOBS, 0F NEW YORK, N. Y.
FOOTBALL NOVELTY.
i Application led February 12, 1927. Serial No. 167,819.
My invention relates to toy football novelties and particularly to such novelties adapted to have a sounding device incorporated therein; my invention is intended toA be used by rooters in football games.
One of the objects of my invention is to provide a convenient combination of such a sounding device as an article of manufacture with a means of disclosing the rooters preferences, such as by a button for attaching the device to the wearers clothing and a ribbon for attaching the sounding device to the button, the sounding device being shaped and colored to simulate a football; the whole combination being thus provi-ded in a pleasing manneradapted to catch t-he fancy of those attending football games.
`With the above and other objects in view, my invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed, and more particularly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a front elevation of the novelty.
Figure 2 is a rear elevation of the same.
Figure 3 is a cross section of the sounding device.
Figure 4 is an end elevation of t-he novelty.
I provide a button pin l such as is commonly used for badges, provided with a depending ribbon 2. It is intended that the badge shall have appropriate wording thereon, as shown in Figure 1, to indicate the wearers preferences; the color or colors of the ribbon will correspond to the colors of the school or organization favored.
The sounding device comprises a rigid hollow body or housing A of a substantially ovalate spheroid shape split along its vertical and longitudinal center-line as at 3, so as to form a front portion 4, and a rear portion 5 having a lip 6 adapted to engage the front portion 4. The housing A is formed to the shape of a football, and the outlines of a pig are marked thereon; the housing is given the tan color usually associated with a football, whereby the object as a whole conveys the thought of a pig-skin. A voice device or horn 7 is positioned in the housing A, having the mouthpiece 8 projecting rearwardly through a perforation 9 in the wall of the rear portion 5; vand a vent l0 is provided in the housing at one end thereof as at 1l for the purpose of permitting the passage of air through the body for operating the sounding device, the said end l1 being designed to simulate the mouth of a pig, as shown in Figure 4.
As an article of manufacture, the novelty is designed to be attached to the users clothing by means of the button, pin 1, and the sounding device A is thus adapted to be supported by means of the ribbon 2, the said ribbon being passed through the said housing between the front portion 4 and the rear portion 5, as shown in Figure 3; the two portions of the housing are then pressed together and fastened by any convenient means, as by a suitable adhesive.
I claim:
1.' In a device of the kind described, a rigid hollow body of substantially ovalate spheroid shape split along its longitudinal center line into a front and rear portion; a lip on the rear portion engaging the front: portion, and a supporting ribbon engaged between said lip and said front portion.
2. In a device of the kind described, a rigid hollow body of substantially ovalate spheroid shape split along its longitudinal center line into a front and rear portion, a lip on the rear portion engaging the front portion, a supporting ribbon engaged between said lip and said front portion, a sounding device in the wall of one of said portions, said body also having a vent for the purpose of permitting the passage of air through the body for operating said sounding device.
In testimony whereof I afx my signature.
JAMES ROY JACOBS.
