The invention relates to scales and more particularly to that type known as counter scales. Among` the objects of the invention are; first, to obtain a sanitarj,7 construction which will permit of cleaning the counter beneath the scale; second. to completely house the levers and mechanism; third, to provide a stable support which is nevertheless, in effect, a three-point bearing facilitating the leveling of the scale: fourth, to condense the arrangement of the platform and supporting levers so that the base mayY be elevated from the counter without increase in the height of the platform; and fifth, to obtain a construction of pleasing appearance and one in which all of the part-s are readily7 accessible, facilitating assembly and detachment for adjustment or repair. In the construction of counter scalesit is usual to .provide a ring base for enclosing the platform levers, said base resting upon the counter and being covered bv the platform. Variation in temperature will not only vary theV tension of the weighing springs, but' will also effect the adjustment ot the indicator. r[his is compensated Ator by forming the rods U of a metal such as brass, which, by its differential coeliicient ot expansion, w`ll act as a thermostat. The. fact that the rods extend 'from the base to the cylinder housing gives a su'flic'ent length to produce the compensation without the use of levers or other complications and this greatly simplifies the construction.
