METAL FRAME FOR SCREENS.
Application filed September 15, 1924. Serial No. 737,851.
My invention relates to metallic screens for windows, etc., and the present invention pertains more particularly to the frame for holding the wire cloth.
The objects of my invention are to produce a durable, fireproof and light weight frame consisting of a minimum number of parts made of sheet metal folded in such manner as to lend rigidity to the frame and enable the wire cloth to be easily replaced when worn out.
In order that the-invention may befully understood, reference will now be had to the accompanying drawing, in which:

The frame of the window screen consists of an upper bar 2, a lower bar 4, and side bars 6 and 8 united at their ends to said upper and lower bars 2 and 4.
The side bars 6 and 8 may be longer or shorter than the bars 2 and 4 in order to fit windows of different sizes, but as all of said bars are otherwise alike it will sufiice to describe but one in detail. to Figs. 2, 3, 5 and 7, it will be noted that the bar 2 is made from one piece of sheet metal folded into hollow rectangular formation to lend rigidity thereto. The sheet metal, is fireproof and is folded to form outer leaves 10 and 12 and an intermediate leaf 14. The leaves 10 and 12 are united at their outer margins by an integral intervening portion 13, and the leaves 12 and 14 are united at their inner margins by an intervening portion 15. A narrow space 16 is left between the leaves 12 to admit the upper portion of the wire cloth 1 8.
By referring Screws 20 are inserted through openings 22 in the leaf 10'and threaded in registering holes in the leaf 14 to clamp said leaves firmly against the wire cloth 18, which is further held in place by said screws 20 extending therethrough.
The ends of the leaf 10 are cut off at an angle of forty-five degrees as indicated at 24 to snugly fit against the corresponding ends 26 and 28 of leaves 30 and 32 of the bars 6 and 8, respectively.
One end of the bar 2 has a downturned lip 34 to overlap the upper end of the bar 8 which fits snugly in a socket 36 formed by the leaves 10 and 12, the lip 34 and the end 38 of the intermediate leaf 14, which is cut off flush with the lower end of the bevel 24. The upper end of the bar 8 is firmly held in the socket 36 by screws 20, 40, 42 and 43. The screw 40 extends through a hole 44 in the lip 34 and is threaded in a registering hole 46 in the bar 8. The screw 42 extends through a hole 48 in the leaf 12 and is threaded in a registering hole in an outer leaf 52 of the bar 8. The screw 43 extends through a hole 45 in the leaf 10 and is threaded in a registerin hole 47 in the intermediate leaf 49 of the ar 8.
The bars 4, 6 and 8 are provided at one end with lips 54, 56 and 58, respectively, corresponding to the lip 34, and said bars are provided at their ends containing said lips with sockets corresponding to the socket 36.
With the parts constructed and arranged in the manner above specified it is apparent that the frame and the wire cloth can be readil assembled or taken apart, and when assem led the bars of the frame are rigidly connected and form a substantial frame of neat appearance; and while I have shown and described the preferred construction and arrangement of parts, I reserve the right to make such changes as properlyfall within the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is: c
A bar for sheet metal screen frames consisting of two outer leaves one of which is beveled at its ends, an intermediate portion uniting said outer leaves, an intermediate leaf shorter than and arranged adjacent to 211d paralleling the leaf with the beveled 5 ends and coacting therewith and with the other leaves in forming a socket for one end of a similar bar, an intermediate portion connecting said intermediate leaf with the unbeveled leaf, and a lip at one end of the bar and constituting one side of the respec- 10 tive socket.
