GEORG'E-KRODER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR- TO J'OHN KRODER AND HENRY REUBEL C0., OF NEW' YORK, N. Y., A. CORPORATION OF NEW YORK.
BACKPLATE FOR GOOSENECK RODlBRACKETS.
Application filed December 20, 1922.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE KRODER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, boroughof Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Backplate for Gooseneck Rod Brackets, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to curtain rod brackets and particularly to an improved back plate for a gooseneck curtain rod and has for an object to provide an improved construction wherein the curtain rod or rods may beheld in proper position while the plate may be properly secured to a support by two or more securing members.
Another object of the invention is to provide a back plate for curtain rods wherein a plurality of screw receiving apertures are arranged at the top and a plurality of screw receiving apertures are arranged at the bottom, so positioned and connected up as to permit the use of all of the apertures or a. certain part thereof without destroying the pleasing appearance of the plate. V
In the accompanying drawing- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a back plate arranged in position and disclosing an embodiment of the invention, a pair of rods being shown connected therewith.
Figure 2 is a sectional view through Figure 1 approximately ony line 2 2, showing a front elevation of the back plate.
Referring to the accompanying drawing by numerals, 1 indicates a window frame of any desired construction and 2 and 3 indicate suitable curtain rods bent as shown in the drawing and secured in any desired manner to the back plate 4. This plate may be of any desired thickness and size and may have any form of perimeter.
Heretofore, in forming the back plates 4 it has been customary either to manufacture the plates with one upper and one lower aperture for receiving a screw or other securing means, or to make back plates with two upper and two lower screw re- Serial No. 607,975.
ceiving apertures. Vhere the device is applied to a window constructed of hard wood, four apertures are unnecessary and require considerable unnecessary work in carefully placing the screws in position. This unnecessary work adds appreciably to the cost of mounting the plate in addition to the added cost incurred by the provision of the two extra screws. Where the wood is soft, two screws are usually not suiiicient.
If a four hole plate was used and only two screws applied on a hard wood support, the jobv would look unfinished. In the present invention, it is aimed to provide a plate which will overcome the objections just suggested and present a plate wherein either two or four screws may be used without producing an unfinished appearance and without destroying the nice appearance of the plate. In carrying out this idea, the plate 4 is provided with four apertures 5, 6, 7 and 8 and between the apertures 5 and 6, but offset therefrom, is arranged an additional aperture 9 while between the apertures 7 and 8, but offset therefrom, is a further additional aperture 10. Slots 11 and 12 connect the respective apertures 5 and 6 with aperture 9 while slots 13 and 14 connec-t the respective apertures f7 and 8 with aperture 10. This arrangement of slots provides a more or less ornamental appearance in connection with the various apertures so that only two screws 15 may be used as shown in the accompanying drawing or if preferred, four screws could be used, the arrangement of the various slots terminating in the respective apertures 4 to 8 but indicating to thev ordinary eye an ornamentation extending from the respective screws 15. If the screws or other supporting members are arranged in the apertures 4 to 8 inclusive and the apertures 9 and 10 are left vacant, the same result would be accomplished, namely, a finished appearing job with a plate having ornamentations associated with the supporting screw heads. It will thus be seen that the function of the various slots is to permit the formation in the plate of openings foi receiving securing members Without destroying the balanced appearance of the plate.
Vhat I claim is A beck plete of the character described, comprising` e at body having e group of round apertures neer the top, e group of round apertures near the bottom, each group being arranged with two apertures in the same plane and one aperture offset from it line drawn from one of the first mentioned apertures to lthe other, a diegonally arranged pair of slots Jfor connecting the top group of apertures together', and a diagonally arranged pair of slots for connecting 'the bottom group of apertures together.
GEORGE KRODER.
