This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a truss.
One object of the invention is to provide a truss of the character described including an adjustable pad so mounted that it may be readily adjusted to any position, relative to the abdominal wall and there secured in a fixed position.
Another object of the inevntion is to provide atruss of the character described having a novel type of hernial pad, of novel construction which may be cheaply and easily produced and readily adjusted, and which may be worn with comfort. 7
With the above and other objects in View this invention has particular relation to certain novel features of construction, arrangement of parts and use, an example of which is given in this specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 shows a front elevation of a complete truss, as applied to the body of a wearer.

Figure 3 shows an enlarged fragmentary side elevation of the body clamp, and
Figure 4 shows a sectional view thereof taken on the line ee of Figure 3.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings, wherein like numerals of reference designate similar parts in each of the figures the numeral 1 designates a body clamp, preferably formed of a flexible steel rod, or other suitable flexible material and U-shaped in general contour so as to clamp around one side of the body. Attached to the rear end of this body clamp is a. back pad 2 designed to rest against the back of the wearer and the free end of the front arm of the body clamp carries the hernial pad designated generally by the numeral 3. This lOOdy clamp is formed of two sections whose adjacent ends overlap and are fitted through a clamp collar 4 and are retained therein by means of a suitable clamp screw 5 in an obvious manner. This screw may be loosened and the body clamp adjusted as desired.
The numeral 6 designates the hernial pad which is preferably disc-like in form and is composed of soft rubber or other suitable soft material. This pad is enclosed in a fabric sack or cover 7. The outer side of the pad 6 has a concaved seat in which rests the convex face of the concavo-convex nut 8 and there is a disc-like clamp plate 9 backing the disc 6 whose margin 10 is overturned toward said disc and whose central portion is of concave-convex formation to conform to the contour of and to seat within the concave surface of the nut 8, and said disc has a relatively large central opening 11. There is a hemispherical clamp block 12 having its convex face fitted withinthe concaved portion of the clamp plate 9 and a clamp bolt is fitted through a central bearing in the block 12 and threaded through the nut-8, said bolt having an enlarged head 14L and this belt clamps the adjacent parts in assembled relation and its outer end is formed with-a socket 15 to receive a suitable socket wrench for manipulating thesame.

It is obvious that a ball joint is formed between the clamp block 12 and'the disc 9'to the end that-when the clampbolt 13 is'loosened said pad may be adjusted in any desired position, one ad usted pos1tion being indicated by dotted lines in Figure 2, and
when said clamp bolt is tightened the hernial pad will be held securely in said adjusted position. In making these adjustments the nut 8 maintains itself in fixed relation with the clamp block 12, the clamp washer 16 being forced by said nut into eccentric position relative to the clamp plate 9 but maintaining itself in clamping relation with the margin of the fabric covering 7 and all parts are securely held in the selected position when said clamp bolt 13 is tightened. The body clamp 1 is retained in position by means of the strap .19 fastened to the rear side of said clamp above the body pad 2 and attached to the front side of the clamp 1 adjacent the hernial pad and this strap may be adjusted to the body by means of the usual buckle 20.
