PROCESS FOR MAKING PILLVS AND THE LIKE Application led September 13, 1926.
This invention relates to certain new and useful iinprovenients in a process for male ing air pillows and the like and the primary object of the invention is to provide a process which will enable air pillows, air mattresses, and similar air cushioned structures to be made easily and quickly as distinguished from the logeneral practice of making such structure manually.
The invention aims to provide a process which enables structures of this hind to be economically produced, at a small cost, and briefly resides in, first, comiecting the gussets to the top and bottom ot the structures before connecting or sealing the marginal edges of the top and bottom.
Theinvention has further and other objects which will be later set forth and manifested in the course of the following description:

As shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings, the pillow is composedof an upper member l. and a lower member 2, each formed of rub berized cloth, the members 1 and 2 forming thev opposite side faces of the pillow and `being marginally united or sealed as indi cated in 3. A series of gussets e entend transversely of thepillow and are connected at their .top and bottom edges thereto.
In the first step of the process, referring to Fig. 3, a mold is employed having a bot tom wall 10 and a top wall l1', together with a series of cores or steel cross members 11.
The members 11 have reduced ends 12 forniing Shanks which latter are received in cut-- outs 13 formed in the mold end walls 1li. The cross members 11 are inclined at 111" where same join the Shanks 12, and are of a length so that the marginal portions of the berial lilo. 134,951.
whereupon pressure is exerted so as to force the marginal edges together and seal same as indicated at 3 in the drawings.
It will be understood that the core niembers 11, after the gussets have been properly unite-d to the `top and bottom members 1 and 2, can be easily slid out from between the latter members, since this operation occurs before the members 1 and 2 are marginally united.
rlhe invention thus involves the initial securement of the gussets to the pillow faces before marginal union of `the latter, which securement is effected by the movable cores 11 and the pressing operation, following which the cores are removed and the mar ginal edges of the members united.

Having thus ydescribed my invention what l claim as new and desire to secure by liet ters Patent is 1. In an apparatus for making air cushion structures and the lilre, top and bottom mem bers, end walls for the members, removable cores and means to support the cores from the end walls, said cores having inclined parte to receive thereover the ends of gusset Y flanges.
