My invention relates to electric furnaces and more particularly to Jfurnaces for heating lead pots.
lin such furnaces it has been customary to provide a single fiat ring secured at its outer edge to the furnace wall and the inner periphery ot which engages the outturned rim of the lead pot in supporting relation.
'lhere are two objections to supporting rings ot this type. First, because of the unequal expansion of the inner and outer peripheries ot the supporting ring, the outer periphery being relatively cool, it is conii'non tor the ring to become cracked or split radially, thereby making it unfit Jfor further operation. Second, since a portion of this ring is exposed to the high temperature of the furnace chamber, ithas been necessary to construct the ring troni a suitable heat resistant material,such as nichronie, which is relatively expensive.

The particular construction of the heatingr unit constitutes no part of iny invention and further detailed description thereof is believed to be unnecessary.

When the furnace is in operation, 'the inner periphery ot rinon 23 will be exposed to a rgreater amount ot heat than the outer periphery, and an unequai expansion will result. ln view, however, ot the upward slant oi the lateral section ot this ring, the relatively great expansion at the inner periphery will merely detorrn that portion of the ring' and the efl'ect upon the cooler portions will be minimized. 'lhis deformation at the inner periphery ot ringl 23 therefore. tends to raise the lead pot, which counterncts the normal tendency ot the pot to pull down through the ring.
Mounted upon said second ring is a cover 30, a port-ion 3l oit' which is pivoted about a hingebar 32 so ,that it may be swung haelt to permit charging' ot the lead pot. abutment 33 is provided to support the hinged portion Si in its open position. Suitable heat inside-ting motorini is disposed in the space between the interiittinlg rings and the top ot the retrmtory ineteriai.
ln the construction described, a lead pot is provided, which, heoause oit the singulier relation et thi-rieten sect' i the rings, provides a supporting means oi high mechanical strength, with a relatively small thickness of material, and obviates the tendency of the ring to craelr or split responsive to unequal expansion thereof; and, since the only part exposed directly to the furnace temperature is a portion of ring 23, only this ring need be constructed of heat resistant material.
llt will also be noted that, by the removal of ring 23, ready access may be had to the furnace chamber and heating elements, without necessitating the removal of ring 19.
llhile throughout the specification l have used the terms ring7 and annular member to designate each of the plate members 19 and 23, it is obvious that they may be of' rectangular or elliptical configuration, depending upon the shape of the furnace Wall and lead pot, and be Within the scope of my invention. 4
Various modifications may be made in the device embodying my invention without departing from the spirit thereof, and l desire 'that only such limitations shall be placed thereon as are imposed by the prior art, or are specifically set 'forth in the appended claims.
l claim as my invention:
l. A. support for a high temperature container in a casing, comprising a plurality of co-axial annular members of difierent diameters, the inner periphery of one adapted to engage, in supporting relation, the outer periphery of a second, and means for remov ably maintaining said members in interfitting relation.
2. In a support for a high temperature container in a furnace, an annular member the outer periphery of which is secured to the furnace Wall, a second annular member frustro-conical in shape, the outer periphery of which is in interlitting relation with the inner periphery of the first annular member, an upwardly curved flange on said second member adapted to operatively engage a downwardly curved flange on said container to sup ort the same.
3. eans 'for supporting a high temperature container comprising an outwardly rolled rim portion integral with said container, a frustro-conical member of relatively small altitude, the inner periphery of which operatively engages said rim portion and the outer periphery of which operatively engages a second annular member, said second annular member being disposed sub` stantially horizontally and in operative engagement with a supporting' structure.
4. In a high temperature container support, a furnace, an annular member constituting a portion of the top of said furnace and fixed thereto, a second annular member, the lateral section ol which entends upwardly at an angle to said first annular member, means for positioning the outer periphery oit said second member in operative engagement with the inner periphery of said first member, and means on the inner periphery of said second member for suliporting said container.
5. Means for supporting a high tempera-- ture container in a casing comprising a flat annular member, the outer perii'ihery et' which is supported upon said casing, a second annularl member coqaxial with said first member, the lateral section ot which is dis posed upwardly at an angle to the plane of said first annular member, means for remei ably maintainingl the outer periphery of said second annular member upon the inner periphery of said liz-st annular member, and means on said container for operative cngagemcnt with the inner periphery of' said second member.
G. llfeans 'for supporting a high temperature container, comprising a downwardly curved rim portion, a co-axal annular member having an upwardly curved lateral sec tion whose inner pcriphe'al portion operatively engages the rim portion, and a ond co-axial annular member 'Whose lateral section is substantially plane and whose inner rim portion ope 'atively engages the outer rim portion of the first named co-aial annular member. and a coaxial casing for supporting all of said members and the container.
7. In a support for a high temperature container in a furnace, the combination with a furnace wall, a flat annular member se cured to and (3o-extensive with said furnace Wall, means for supporting said member above said wall to provide a space for healing' insulatingl material. a second annular member coaxial with the first, interfitting means carried by the inner periphery el the first member and the outer periphery ol' the second to removably support the second mens ber upon the first, and means carrieil by the inner periphery of said second member to engage an outwardly turned rim on said container in supporting relation.
8. A support for a high temperature container in a furnace, comprising a plurality of co-axial peripheral plates, means for supporting the outer periphery oi' one plate up'on the inner periphery of another, and means for removably maintaining said men bers in interitting relation.
