SMOKE CONSUMER.

Application filed November 24, 1922. Serial No. 603,052.

This invention relates to smoke consumers and particularly to that type of smoke consumer in which the object is not to entirely absorb the smoke but to prevent the black smoke from soft coal discharging its contents into the air over a large area.

The principal object is to provide a device whereby steam may be forced into the smoke as the same is emitted from the stack and may be thoroughly mixed with the smoke so as to prevent the dirt and soot from being scattered over a large area and to make the smoke which ascends from the stack very light in color and contents.

Another object is to produce a device of this nature which shall be simple of construction, cheap to manufacture, easy to assemble and place, and highly eflicient for the purpose for which it is designed.

With these and other objects in view as will be more apparent, the invention consists in certain novel construction and combination and arrangement of parts, the essential features of which are hereinafter fully described, are particularly pointed out in the appended claim, and are illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure l is a side elevation of my improvement in place.

Figure 2 is a top plan view of the same.

Like characters of reference refer to like parts in both views.

Referring to the drawing in detail, 10 represents a smoke-stack or chimney and 11 represents a service pipe which may be connected at its lower end to any suitable source of steam preferably under pressure, (not shown) Xtending from the upper end of the pipe 11 are two or more laterals 12 and 13 which extend toward the center of the chimney 10. At the end of each lateral is arranged a T-fitting 14 in which is arranged a ring 15 or 16 of pipe. The rings 15 and 16 are formed with a plurality of apertures 17 from which the steam will be emitted in tiny jets and forced into the smoke arising from the stack and thoroughly mix therewith whereby the dust and soot will be precipitated and not carried off into the surrounding atmosphere.

Supports 18 may be provided for either ring or for both rings and secured to the chimney 10 for supporting the rings. While only two rings have been shown, it is understood that more may be used if found desirable or necessary.

While I have described what I deem to be the most desirable embodiment of my invention, I do not limit myself to the specific details of construction or material, nor to anything less than the whole of my invention as defined in the appended claim.

lVhat I claim is In a smoke consumer the combination of a steam service pipe arranged longitudinal- 1y adjacent a smoke stack with its end portion slightly above but adjacent the outlet end of the stack, of a pair of circular pipes axially concentric with each other and with the longitudinal center of the stack, said circular pipes being arranged laterally of and operatively connected to the upper end of the service pipe, and one being superimposed relative to and of less diameter than the other, the upper peripheral wall of said circular pipes having a plurality of perfo rations, whereby as steam emanates from the perforations upwardly of the outlet end of the stack, an ejector action may be created to dispense the smoke from the stack, and 80 clamping means to secure one of the circular pipes to the stack and thereby reinforce the steam service pipe relative to the stack.
