The general object of my present invention is to provide an improved construction of tunnel kiln car superstructures. More specifically, the object of my present invention is to provide an improved arrangement and construction of saggers forming a semiperlnanent ware holding superstructure for kiln cars. p r p r The various features of novelty which characterize my invention are pointed. out

For a better understanding of the invention, however, its advantages andspecific objects attained. with its use, reference should be had to the accompanying drawings and descriptive matter in which I have illustrated and described preferred embodiments of my invention. i

In the drawings is shown a "general .211- rangement of saggers adapted to form a semi-permanent ware holding superstructure of a kiln car and arranged so that the ware can be loaded on the car from the outside thereof without handling the saggers. In the usual method of loading kiln cars of this type, operating costs are high due to the amount of saggers and ware handled separately and the consequent amount of breakage incurred. The present arrangement is designed to decrease the, cost of loading by decreasing the amount of material handled and improving the method of loading.
In the preferred form shown, the car superstructure consists of a multiplicity of adjacent saggers A and B supported in the usual manner on the car body and arranged in similar superposed layers for holding general ware for glost firing or similar heat treatment.
The saggers A and B are constructed along the same general lines, any differences in form being due solely to the dimensions of the kiln car bodies and to the necessity of utilizing all theavailable space. In Figs.
24: of the drawings, the specific construction of a sagger of the form A is illustrated.
Each sagger. A consists of a refractory body of general ll-shaped outline and rectangular cross section. The sagger is cone structed with its larger end and top open. lVhenmounted on the carbodythe bottom of each sagger forms the top cover plate for the corresponding sagger upon which itfis mounted. As shown in Fig. 1 each sagger is mounted with its openend adjacent one side of the kiln car in order that the loadmg can take place atboth sides of the car simultaneously. i i

With this arrangement thesagger is adapted to contain table ware such as plates or saueers of different diameters. The sidewalls A and A are providedat spaced intervals along their length with bosses A projecting outwardly and extendingthe entire height ofthe side walls. The bosses on the side wall A are opposite corresponding bosses on the wall A The wall A is provided with a thickened portion A adjacentthe end of each curved portion of the sidewall.

While in accordance with the provisions ofthe'statutes, I have illustratedand described the best formof embodiment of my invention now known to me, it will be apparent to those skilled in the art that changes may-be made inthe form of the apparatus disclosed without departing from the spirit of my invention as set forth in'the appended claims and that in some cases certain features of my invention may be used to advantage without a correspondingfuse of other features. r
