ends of stay'or reinforcing wires or rods to prevent leakage through the wall around the wires or rods, and also to a device for use in connection with and to facilitate such treatment.
. In masonry work the form boards for concrete walls or the like are customarily tied together in spaced relation by cross wires which extend'through the wall when formed and extend from the sides thereof through the form boardsand around outside braces. When the forms are removed, the tie wires are usually cut off close to the'wall, and unless the exposed ends of these wires are sealed with respect to the wall, leakage occurs through the wall around the wires, and thistendency to leak is increased by the rusting and consequent reducing in size of the wires. v i
To prevent such leakage, ithas been customary, after the forming of a Wall and removal of the forms, to chip away the concrete to provide a pocket or recess in the wall surface around the exposed end of the wire, and after cutting the wire end ofit' or turning it back within the pocket, to then fill the pocket with a sealing cement flush with the wall side to prevent leakage.
This is a tedious,expensive and uncertain method of preventing such leakage, inasmuch as it is very difiicult and takes considerable time, especially when extremely hard water-proof cement is used, to chip out the cement to form the pockets, and in view of this difficulty workmen are very apt to make the pockets so shallow that an etl'ective sealing cannot be obtained, and this cannot be determined from an inspection of the work after it is completed. It also frequently happens that the workmen will miss some of the wire ends.
The object of thisinvention is the provision of a method, and means for carrying it out, for sealing the exposed wire ends of concrete work in a manner which is easy, simple, inexpensive and efficient, and which obviates the objections and diiiiculties incident to the methods heretofore employed.
