The prlmary Ob ect of my invention is the production of a metal alloy intended primarily for use as a deoxidizing and fluxing agent in the preparation or melting down of certain metals or combination of metals.
Another very important object of my invention is the production of an improved metal alloy which will also act as a scavenger or cleanser, and by the use of which it is possible to produce metals of maximum strength, density and ductility. g A further object of my invention is the production of such a metal alloy composed of aplurality of ingredients,.all of which may be readily obtained and which ingredients can be easily compounded.
My composition consists generally of a mixture ofnickel, tin, manganese, phosphorus and copper.
In preparing my composition, I prefer to use the above ingredients in about the followin proportions viz:
Nic el, 5% to 10%; tin, 3% to 10%; manganese, 7 5/100% to 5%; phosphorus,
25/100% to 3%; copper-the amount of copper used being the amount necessary to form 100%.

may be found desirable but in the preferred compounding of the alloy, the ingredients are preferably used in the following proportions and these proportions may he properly called the standard proportions.
Copper. 84%; nickel, 10%; tin, 5%; manganese, 75/100%; phosphorus, 25/100%.
My alloy ma be used in varying percentages as an ad ition to other metals for accomplishing the objects enumerated hereinabove or it may be used as a whole to pro duce castings for various purposes.
By the use of my improved alloy, it is possible, by the use of very small percentages, to obtain a superior casting with a dense fine grain, increased tensile strength and improved machining qualities.
My alloy is used to great advantage in red and yellow brass and in low lead bronzes as a deoxidizer and strengthener and to further improve the machining and wearing qualities thereof.
What I claim is: 1. A scavenging alloy consisting of the following metals taken in the proportions covering the following ranges; nickel, from 5 to 10%; tin, from 3 to 10%; manganese, from 75/100 to 5%; phosphorus from 25/100 to 3%; and copper from 72 to 92%. 2. A scavenging alloy consisting of 84% copper, 10% nickel. 5% tin, 75/100% manganese, and 25/100% phosphorus.
