Referring now more particularly to the drawings, I show a railroad tie 10 of usual construction, having atie plate 11 mounted thereon as by fastenings 24 passed through the center of the plate at the medial por-.
tion of the tie, and by track spikes 25 driven into the tie at the edges of the plate each side of the rail, onlythe head on" the track spikes engaging the tie plate. The said tie' plate 11 extends substantially coextensive with the tie 10, and has a plurality of rail supporting elements 12 mounted thereon suitably to the number of rails 13 to be supported by the tie. Each rail supporting element 12 has a groo e 14 in its underside extending transversely of the rail 13, and also has laterally extendingwings 15 for the purpose of fastening the said element to the tie plate, as by rivets 16. Arail clamp. 17 is provided on each side of each rail supporting element 12 and associated therewith, and each clamp 17 comprises abody portion having an extended foot 18 for engaging the said groove 14, and an overhanging fiange 19 for engaging the baseof therail 13,,thc said flange having the rail base engaging face thereof formed with: an jarcuatevshape, as shown at 20. The purpose ofthe 'arcuate shape of the rail. base engaging face-.20 of the'clamp 17 is to prevent pinching of the rail base as a load passes over the tie, the eitect of the load, is well known, being to deflect and distort. the rail. By my construction, this distortion of the rail is readily accommo- 1dated, thus preventing fractures of the rail ase. I
It will be readily seen that by mounting the tieplate on the tie as described, the said tieplate is free to expand at its ends, being fixed to the tie at its center, but slidably secured thereto elsewhere. In this manner I prevent buckling and distortion of the tie plate. Also, the tie plate acts to prevent the spreading of the rails, by securely connected with each of said rail supporting elements and mounted on said plate.
2. In a track structure, a tie, a. plate mounted on the tie and substantially coextensive therewith, a plurality of rail supporting elements mounted on the plate, a pair of rail engaging clamps slidably mounted on said plate connected with each of said rail supporting elements and releasably engaging the rail, clamp engaging brackets mounted on said plate, and locking means connected with each of said brackets engaging one of said clamps.
3. In a rail fastening device, a rail supporting plate having a groove in its underside extending transversely of the rail, and a pair of rail clamps connected with the supporting plate, each of said clamps comprising a body having an extended foot for engaging said groove, and an overhanging flange for engaging the rail base, said flange having the rail engaging face thereof formed with an areuate shape.
4. In a rail fastening device, a tie plate, a rail supporting plate mounted on the tie plate and having a groove in its underside extending transversely of the rail, a pair of rail clamps slidably mounted on the tie plate and connected with said rail supporting plate, each of said clamps comprising a body having an extended foot for enga i said groove, and an overhanging flange for engaging the rail base, said flange having the rail engaging face thereof formed with an arcuate shape, clamp engaging brackets mounted on the tie plate, each of said brackets having locking means connected therewith for engaging one of said clamps.
In a rail fastening device, a rail supporting plate having a groove in its underside extending transversely of the rail, a rail clamp on each side of the rail connected with the supporting plate, each of said clamps comprising a body having an extended foot for engaging said groove and an overhanging flange for engaging the rail base, said flange having the rail base engaging face thereof formed with an arcuate u shape, and means for releasably positioning said clamps in engagei'nent with said rail.
(3. In a track structure, a tie, av tie plate mounted on the tie and substantially coextensive therewith, a plurality of rail supporting plates each having a groove in its underside extending transversely of the rail, a rail clamp on each side of each rail supporting plate and connected therewith, each clamp comprising a body having an extending foot for engaging said groove and an overhanging flange for engaging a rail base, saidflange having the rail base engaging face thereof formed with an arcuate shape, each rail clamp being slidable transversely of the rail, and means connected with said tie plate for releasably locking said clamp in ei'igagement with said rail.
7. In a rail fastening device, a tie plate, a rail supporting plate mounted on the tie plate and having a groove in its underside extending transversely of the rail, a rail clamp mounted on the tie plate slidable transversely of said rail, each clamp coinprising a body having an extended foot for F engaging said groove, and an overhanging flange for engaging the rail base, said flange having the rail engaging face thereof formed with an arcuate shape, a clamp engaging bracket connected with each clamp and mounted on the tie'plate, and locking means on the bracket for releasably locking the clamp in engagement with the rail.
