After the insert has been turned into the outer .member Q8 to the l'ull extent, there is relatively tig t' ti'ictioiial engagement between the threaded sleeve 2l and said outer member. An attempt, to unscrcw the outer member will, thcrelorc, result in the sleeve Q1 turning therewith upon the collar 12, this being readily permitted by the construction just described. Then `theonter member is turned in the opposite direction, the projection 28' engages the ratchet device 24, cansino; the collar 12 to move with the other parts whereby the device may be threaded into the radiator` neck. Removal is prevented by Vthe saine means which prevents the separation ot the outer member 28 and the sleeve "21, namely the connection between the sleeve 2l. and the inner collar 12, which permits relative rotation oi said sleeve.k It will thus be in'nliossible to remove the cap trom the outside arlter the parts are assembled and po.;i.ioned and, at the same time, the inner and outer units may v.be readily assembled as an incident to installing the device upon a car.
The cover 14 is provided with a rearwardly extendingl hinge 'lng' 29, which is pivotally secured by means of a hinge pin 30 to an upstandingr portion of the body 11. said pin being preferably arranged so that it cannot' be engaged or driven out. without piercing the metal of said upstanding portion of the body.
It is thought that the invention and many of its attendant advantages will. be understood from the foregoing description, and it Will be apparent that various changes vmay be made in the forml` construction and 'arrangement of the parts, without departing;r from the spirit and scope of the invention, or sacrificing all of its material advantages, the form hereinbefore described being,` inerely a preferred embodiment. thereof.
I claim:
1. The combination of an internal collar having an opening therethrough and having` means for attachment to a radiator neck. a sleeve upon said internal collar provided with screw threads, an external collar provided with screw threads adapted to cooperate with the threads on said sleeve to sccure said collar upon the sleeve, a closure pivoted to said. external colla` and adapted to have a motoineter permanently secured thereto, and means interposed lietween and locking said sleeve and internal collar together and permitting movement oli the sleeve with the external collar to prevent Vremoval from the radiator neck.
2. The combination oit an internal collar having an opening therethrough and having means for attachment to a radiator neck, a sleeve upon said internal collar provided with screw threads, an external collar provided with screw threads adapted to cooperate with the threads on lsaid sleeve to secure said collar upon the sleeve, a closure pivotcd to .said external collar and adapted to have a motonictcr perlnanentl)Y secured thereto, and means .intcrposwl between and locking said sleeve and internal collar logether, said means including' a ratchet permitting relative movement ol. said sleeve upon said collar in one direction but not in the other.
3. The combination ot an internal collar having an opening,- therethrough and having;` means for attachment to a radiator neck, a sleeve movably fitting` around said internal collar when the device is assembled l'or use, an external collar havingr screw-threaded cn- ;ragement with said sleeve, a pivoted closure :tor said external collar lia-ving an opening; adapted to receive a mot'on'icter, and meansI enclosed between and locking' together said sleeve and internal collar.
'l. The combination of an internal collar having an opening therethrough and having' means for attachment to a radiator neck, a sleeve titting around said internal collar, an external collar having screw-thrca ded cngagement with said sleeve, a` pivoted closure on said external collar having' an opening' adapted to receive a motometer, said sleeve being locked to said internal collar but rclatively movable thereon, and means preventing` relative movement of the sleeve in one direction while permitting it in the other.
5. The combination of an internal collar having an opening theretln'ougrh and ad apt'- ed to be scren=threaded onto a radiator neck` a sleeve movably fittingT around .said internal collar and locked against. separation therefrom, an external collar screw--tlireaded uponsaid sleeve and adapted to have a inotometer permanently secured thereto. and means for causing' said sleeve to turn indopendentlvv ot said internal collar and with said external collar when the latter is turned in unscrewing direction.
G. The combination oit an internal collar havingr an opening; therethrough and adapted to be screw-threaded onto a radiator noch. a. sleeve niovably littinc` around .said inter nal collar and locked anni` st: separation therefrom, an external collar scrmv-threaflral upon said sleeve and adapted to have a niotonieter permanently secured thereto. moans tor causing` said sleeve to turn iudeponit cntl)v ot said internal collar and with .said external collar when the latter is turned in unserewing direction, and means (ainsinn all said parts to turn together in direction to screw the device upon the radiator neck.
7. In a radiator cap, the coi'nliiination of an outer body, an inserted attachingr meniber, a cylindrical member upon the exterior of the inserted member and being removably attachable to the interior ot said outer Sti ltltl body :md betting :m inwardly projecting iortioil adapted to eeoperzite with said i11- serted attaching member to prevent separation el? seid outer body tberelroin, the
' attaching member being inaccessible from the exterior of the cap.
lil a radiator cap, the combination ot m11 outer body, :in inserted attaching member, a Cylindrical. member having e screwthreaded Connection with tbe interior of Said outer body and having mi inwardly projecting portion adapted to coopera-te With :seid iiisert d attaching member to prevent Separation of said outer body therefrom by permitting idle rotation of tlie outer* body, the attaching member beiiig` inaccessible trom tbe exterior of the Cep.
