PATENT OFFICE.
DOROTHY A. SNEESTON, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
DETACHABLE PUMP AND SLIPPER RETAINER.
Application led December 8, 1926.
My invention relates to that type ont attachments for retaining articles ot 'footwear upon the 'feet wherein a detachable heel band supported across the bridge of the foot carries intermediate its length a transversely disposed band adapted to extend substantially vertically so as to engage beneath the shank of the slipper.
The essential objects of my invention are to enable the employmentl o'l' narrow width material in the heel band; to prevent the curling and warping of said material; to conceal the attaching ends of the shank cngaging band; and to increase the efficiency ot heel strap fastening means, and to attain these ends in a sightly, inexpensive, and easily manipulated structure.
To the above ends essentiallyv my invention consists in such parts and in such combinations of parts as fall within the scope ot the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings which 'form a part of this specilication- Figure 1 is a side elevation of my rctain ing device attached to a slipper,
Figure 2, a perspective view of the .device detached, and n Figures 3 and 4t, sections of the same taken on lines 3 8 ot Figure 1, and 4 4 off Figure 2 respectively.
Like reference characters indicate parts throughout the vieWs.
In detail my retaining device includes a like narrow strap 7 having attaching end portions 9 and 10, and comprises an outer flexible strip 12 of sude kid or other suitable material overlaying a ilexible lining strip 13 of similar or other like material of equal width and connected by lines of stitches 14 in their margins. `This strap constitutes the heelband.
The band 1G7 preferably of elastic fabric7 is diagonally and transversely disposed relatively to heel band 7 and has its ends inserted between the strips or layers 12 and 13 Where they are fixed by the stitches 14 Serial No. 153,273.
supplemented by longitudinally vdisposed lines of stitches 18. In the end oi the longer attaching portion l() oi' the band is formed a buttonhole 20. In the portion 9 of the band, near its end is a threaded loop 21 engaging an eye 22 in a rounded head 23, constituting a button similar to a shoe button. This is adapted to register in the buttonhole 20.
In Figure 1 is shown a foot Q5 seated in a slipper 26 having the usual heel Q7 and instep 28. The band 7 embraces the heel 27 or back of the shoe, and band 16 embraces the shank. Then the band ends 9 and 10 are buttoned across the arch o'l the ieoot the back of the shoe is held tightly and comfortably in place. Y
It will be observed that the presence ot the lining strip 13 prevents warping of the band 7; that the ends of the band 16 are concealed, and are prevented from abrading the slipper, by their location between the strips 12 and 13; and that the employmentof a button and buttonhole to engage the parts insures the'band ends against accidental slippage. A
It is deemed important that the band 16 be so disposed relatively to the band 7 that, in use, it shall extend substantially vertically.
As an improved article ot manufacture a retainer for pumps and slippers comprising a strap to encircle the toot and to engage the heel 'and ankle, means 'tor detachably connecting the ends of said strap, and an elastic band having its ends attached to said strap and extending substantially from the mid length thereof and angularly related thereto and constructed and arranged when in use to assume a substantially vertical position at the breast of the heel.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature.
