UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ZEDDIELEE HARBIN, GASTONIA, NORTH CAROLINA, ASSIGNOR `F ONE-HALF TO `EMANUEIL r}RO|5I1VIAI\T, 0F GASTONIA, NORTH CAROLINA.
CHURN.
s Application led February This invention relates to churns embodying among other characteristics a` dasher arm carrying agitator members disposed in different directions to thoroughly mix and agitate the contents of the churn.
Another object of my invention resides in the provision of van operating mechanism connected with the dasher arm to impart the necessary momentum to the dasher arm and agitators. f `With the above and other objects in view, the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construct-ion, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanyingy drawingsand pointed out in theappended claims.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view through the invention. y.
Figure 2 is a rear elevation thereof. Figure 3 is a sectional'view taken on line 3 3 of Figure 1.
ktaken Figure 4 is a sectional `view taken through the `closure cover and removable portion r thereof.
Referring' to the drawings in detail, wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the reference character indicates a rectangular frame formed by angle bars 11y and having legs 12 secured to the under sides of their corners while the upper sides form al seat for the lower edges of a can 13 having a closure lid 111 arrangedv upon the periphery thereof.` A frustrd conical shaped cutout portion 15 being provided within one side andl extending to the center of the closure lid 14 and providing rshoulders' 16 upon the opposite side,- edges thereof for supporting the corresponding shoulders of a frustro-conical 'shaped strip 1'? having a knob 18 secured to its upper side to permit its removal'when desired.V` Pairs of relatively flat supporting arms 19 having their lower ends secured to the corners of the frame l() while their opposite upper ends extending inwardly and twistedl upon them- 26, 1926. serial 110.941,879.
tial ly L-shaped cutout portion 22 and having a pinion 24 secured thereto while its opposite .en'd having a wheel .thereon correspondingly secured fly including an eccentrically mounted operating handle 26. A spur gear 27 and gear 28 being mounted within the horizontal portion of the cutout portion 22 and meshing with each other while the spur gear having its swiveled portion meshing with the pinion 211 in order that location of gear 28 andv shaped opening within the frustro-conical 15 in the closure lid 14 and providing downwardly and upwardly ex'- tending oppositely disposed Vsemi-circular dasher arms 31 uponr their lower ends which extend in slight to the bottom o .spaced relation with respect f the can 13.
It will thus be noted from the :foregoing description and the dasher arms accompanying drawing that 31 may be rota-ted within the can 13 upon therotation of the fly wheel when clasping the eccentrically mounted handle 26.
In order vto provide a foot pedal arrangement for use i n conjunction with the fly wheel. V25 I provide an operating rod 32 forming a. loop 33 upon its upper end en circling :in appropriate portion of the eccentrically mounted handle 26 while itsl lower end being pivotally mountedbetween spaced parallel ears 34 provided upon the foot end of the foot pedal 35l which in turn havingapertured ears 36 provided upon its under side for pivotally locking movement between corresponding ears 37 mounted upon the upper side of a platform 38 but being pivotally associated as indicated at 39 to Vone side of the frame 19 and including supporting legs 40 upon its opposite ends.
A retractile spring 41 being secured to theV upper side of the platform 38 and having its opposite end se cured to the under side and adjacent the foot end of the foot pedal 35 in order that the said operating arm or rod 32 and foot pedal 35 will be normally positioned as clearl the drawing.
y illustrated in VFigure 1 of It is further to be noted that when it is desirous of removing the can 13 'from the ,traine l0, the dasher arin 3() if; released Jfrom the adjustable socket 29 which will then drop down within the an 123 through the elosure lid il `wherebyT thevcan a whole may be readily and easily removed. Obviously the closure lid M- niay be removed 'troni the periphery of the traine 10 independently of 'the dasher arin 30 upon the removal oi the truste-conical shaped closure lid 17.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form7 proportions and minor details oil Construction, and the right is herein reserred to make such changes as properly fall Within the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:
l'n a device of the character described oomprisinf.;l a can, a dasher arm suspended therein7 an enlarged portion carried upon one end of the arm, and semi-Circular oppositely disposed dasher arms arranged in superi1nposed relation and having` their points o intersection disposed wholly within the enlarged portion.
In testimony whereof a'ilix my signature.
