This improvement, relating as indicated to illuminating devices,-has more partie ular reference to a construction which may be made up readily and in differentdegrees of complexity in accordance with the requirements in any given instance. tomarily a iixture-manutacturer inV order to meet the wide scope of requirements oi? Jthe trade is compelled to put out a wide range oi equipment, which in the tubular and cast type as now yemployed involve very extensive outlays and stocks. .it tyoe ot' construction which is of unit charact and simple to make and easy' to assemble in diti'erent arrangements is accordingly highly to be desired.
To the accomplishment ot the foregoing and related ends, the invention, then, consists of the features hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims, the annexed drawing illustrating but a few details ot the various forms, however, in which the principle of the invention may be employed.

Referring more particularly to the drawing, the reference character A designates a make-up unit having an attaching arm 1 and carrier arm 2. The attaching arm bowed out more or less in shape as desi and extending` integrally theretrom is the carrier arm, this being formed by shearing' from the margins, or preferably within the contour of the carrie-r arm as indicated in F ig. 2, and then being bent out angularly to the desired extent, The first mentioned operation is performed in suitable shear or punch press, a plate or sheet metal blank being the raw material, and the second operation may be accomplished in the same press or otherwise as convenient. YAin ornamental stamping is also provided at 3 and holes 4:, 5, 6 and 7 are punched near the ends and intermediately for a purpose to be referred to more in detail hereinafter. `@etnicircular holes 8 are also 'punched and a strap like bridge 9 .is sheared in connee tion therewith. By bending the respective arms to the extent desired, various ornamental shapes may be produced, the general type preferably being somewhat along the lines shown in l? 1. 'its here shown. tie atte-.chingl arm 1 is bowed outwardly so as to allow the upper end to extend almost vertically while the lower end extends almost horizontally, and the carrier arm 2 bent. out substantially' horizontally with one or more ornamental curvatures. The malte-up unit with its arms shaped into final form, with the bridge 9 bowed or odset from the plane of the arm is secured to any suitable supporting means and may be used as such, a lamp socket 10 being secured in the loop 9 of the carrier arm. By assembling two or more of these units together, fixtures of greater complexity and ornamental eiizect may be had, conveniently a central hollow stem 14 extending from a support 18 and having' thereon an annular member 11 to which the make-up units are secured by their lower ends by screws or the like 12. A coupling` 13 having lateral openings is carried by the central stem and to ornamentally conceal the joints of the assembled structure, a cuplike member 15 or ornamental design is held in place on the coupling by a cap 16 from which there may be an ornamental pendant 1'?. The upper ends of the attaching arms 1 may be secured to the support 18 by small bolts or the like 19 passed through the holes et. The wires leading to the lamps are passed through the hollow central stem and out through the lateral openings in the coupling, thence through the opening 6 in the arm and along the back ot the arm to the opening 8 through which they lead to the lamp .socket 10. To hold the wires in place, pins 21 may be inserted through the holes 5 and be suiiiciently bent over to retain the wires, and advantageously the same pin may be used to suspend an ornamental pendant of glass or other desired material 22. By using` different numbers of the makesup units, a variety ot finished fixtures is possible and in each case the general plan of wiring is the same as indicated. It will thus be seen that the construction as a whole allows of quite a range of effects and withal is simple and of relatively low cost in manufacture.
