With these objects in view, the invention is constructed ot supporting plates or holders for lthe plaster cast :oil the gums, one ot which plates has a postmounted thereon, which Ytelescopically receives a vbarrel lto which a lever is pivotally connectechand which lever supports the other plate through the medium of aba'll andsock'etjoint. The pivot-pin Ifor the lever isspring-pressed and mounted in a slot so as to permit inovei'nent of the upper plate relative to thelower one. he lever supports a barrel provided with a slitted outer end formed into a socket which receives `a ball connected with the upper plate to provide a ball and socket joint between the supporting lever and said up- .'u per plate, in order to enable the dentist to move one of the-casts relative to the other.

ln the drawings, the numerals l and 2- indicate the lower and upper plates respectively which hold 'the plaster casts of the upper and lower gums. The plate l has a post 3 mounted on the rear end thereof, which telescopically receives a barrel 4l thereovei. A supporting-screw 5 extends through post 3 and carries the barrel 4 on the upper end thereof, and this screw 5 may be adjusted and extended upwardly from the post 3, so as to adjust the position of the barrel i thereon. The post 3 is provided with a groove 6, which receives a set-screw 7 for holding the barrel 4i in position on the post.
The barrel 4 terminates in a plate 8 provided with a groove 9 therein, which receivesl the pivot-pin l for a lever ll. This lever ll is provided with a bifurcated end l2 which receives the plate 8 as clearly shown in Fig. l. A spring 153 is positioned in the groove 9,'and is interposed between the pivot pin l0 and a plate 14 secured by screws l to the face of the plate 8, in order to hold the pivot-pini() and the lever 1l in their forward position, but to permit them to be moved'back tor arranging` the teethin 'the plaster casts. A lug 1G extends laterally from 'the barrel el, and rece'i'i'fes a set-screw 17 which extends beneath and supports the lever ll,
A barre-l'l is telescopically mounted on the lever 1l and held in position thereon by'a set-screw 19 extending into a groove 20in the leverll. The barrel lSis slitted as at 21 to form a socket 22 inthe forward end thereoiiI tor receiving' and einbracinga -ball 23 made integral, with,.and extending downwardly from, the plate 2. The barrel 18 Ais threaded, as at 2a, to receive a threaded ring 25, which may be screwed forwardly thereon to close the slit 2i, and tofsecure the socket l22 over the' ball'23 in order to provide a supportingiv action between these members.
In use, the plaster casts of the upper and lower gums are secured on the plates l and 2, which may be adjusted relative to each other by the adjustment of the barrel i on the post 3, and also by the movement of the plate 2 relative to the plate l iii-the ball andY socket joint. The pivotal connection between tlie lever ll and the plate S allows the upper supporting,l lever to open and rest at an angle of approximately The movement ot the pivotal pin l0 in the groove 9 enables the dentist to move the upper plate rback and 'forth relative to the lower one when necessary in arrangingl the teeth oi the cast. The universal joints and 23 enables the dentist to correct a mistake which he finds he has made aiter he has set the teeth upon the wax and tried them in the mouth.
I claim:

A device of the character described including' a lower plate, a post mounted thereon, a barrel Iitted over said post, means extending'.upwardly from the end of the post, and adjustably supporting,- the barrel thereon, a lever pivotally mounted upon the barrel, and an upper plate supported by said lever. Y

A device ot the character described including a lower supporting plate, a post mounted thereon, a barrel itted over said post and terminating` in a plate, a supporting` screw extendingl upwardly from tahe post and adjustably supporting the barrel ther-eon, means for holding the barrel in its adgroove, and an upper supporting plate car-` ried by said lever.
3. A device of the character described including a lower supporting plate, a post mounted thereon, a barrel itted over said post and terminating in a plate, a supporting screw cXtei'iding upwardly from the post and adjustahly supporting the barrel thereon., means for holding the barrel in its adjusted position, said last-mentioned plate having a groove formed therein, a lever having a bifurcated end litted over said plate and having a pivot pin extending in the groove, a spring for resiliently holding the pivot-pin in its forward position in the groove, a barr-el telescopically mounted on the lever, and having a slitted outer end forming a supporting socket, an upper supporting plate having a ball-member received in, and supported Jfrom, said socket, and means for clamping the socket over the ball.

A device of the character described including a plate, a post mounted thereon, a barrel fitted over said post and terminating in a plate having a groove formed therein, a lever having a bifurcated end fitted over said plate and having a pivot pin extending in the groove, a spring for resiliently holdJ ing the pivot pin in its forward position in the groove, and an upper plate connected with the lever.
5. A device ont the character described including a lower supporting plate, a lever pivotally mounted thereon, a barrel telescopically mounted on said lever, said Vbarrel having the outer end thereof slitted, ya socket v formed in the extreme end of said barrel, an upper supporting plate having` a ball connected therewith and received ink VSaid socket, said barrel having screw threads i'orined thereon about the slitted portion thereof, and a nut screwed on said threads lorclamping the slitted socket on the ball.
6. A device of the character described in cluding supporting members, supporting means for adjustably connecting said members together, including a plate having a groove therein, a lever connected with vone oi the plates and having a pivot pin entending in thc groove, and a spring interposed between one cnd of the groove and the pivot pin tor resiliently holding the pivot pin in proper position in the groove. v ln testimony Whereo'li I ai'iii: mv signature.
