BRACELET END HOOK.
Application filed September This invention relates to a bracelet end hook of a type more particularly adapted for attaching the end of a watch bracelet to the hail of a wrist watch; and the object of the invention is to provide a sliding tongue for closing the hook portion which let hook foru'iing the subject matter of this invention.
Figure 2 is a perspective View of a portion of the body with the liicok carried thereby.
lz gure 3 is a perspective View of the bottom wall of thebody of the end hook.
Figure 1- is a perspective View of the sliding tongue for closing the hook.
Figure 5 is a sectional side elevation showing the tongue in closed position.
Fi. ;:3urc 6 is a sectional side elevation show he tongue in open position.
l igi ure '7 is a sectional end elevation on line a--o: of Figure 5.
Figure 8 is a s .ctional side elevation of a modified form of book.
Figure 9 is a perspective View of a still diilerent modified form of hook.
Figure 10 is a perspective View of the sliding tongue used in the construction of hook illustrated in Figure 9.
It is found in the use of bracelet hooks of the character adapted to attach a watch bracelet to the bails of a wrist watch, of advantage to provide a sliding tongue for closing the hook and also of advantage to provide means for frictionally holding the tongue in either closed or open position with a liugerpiece for manipulation of the tongue which extends through one of the walls of the body for engagement, and in order to accomplishsuch holding in diflereut positions, I have provided a detent on the sliding tongue to snap by an abutment on the body of the hook to engage either side thereof to hold the tongue in either 21, 1926. Serial No. 136,884.
open or closed position; and the following is a detailed description of one construction of hook by which these advantageous re-: sults may be accomplished lVith reference to the drawings, 10 doe ignates a wrist watch having bails 11 to which is attached a flexible bracelet '12 by means of an end hook 153. This cud hook comprises a top wall 1 1 having anextended shank portion 15 provided with a hookshaped end 16. The top wall is slotted as at 17 for the purposes hereinafter described. Sidev walls 18 are also provided extending. from the top wall 1 1 and suitable means such an end wall Or bar 19 may be providedfor attaching the hook to the end link of a flexible bracelet.
The bottom wall 20 of the body has side walls or flanges 21 which space it from the top wall and are mounted between-fireside wallsof the top, the edges 22 being rolled over to hold the bottom wall in position. Slidably engaging the top wall and between it and the bottom wall of the body, there is a tongue 23 mounted the same having an offset end portion 2 1 to substantially meet the hook-shaped end 16 to close the same. The tongue is also provided with flanges 2; to slidably engage the side walls of the body to guide the tongue in its movement and to strengthen the same. A finger-piece 26 is carried by the tongue and extends through the slot 17 in the top wall for manual engagement to slide the tongue to open or close-the hook.
The resilient projections or detents may be formed in various ways and in Figure 8 I have illustrated a single detent 29 as cut from the stock and raised in a manner to engage the bottom wall to frictionally hold the tongue in the desired position, it being also illustrated in this figure that the finger piece 30 extends through the bottom wall of the hook rather than through the top wall as is shown in the previously described figures.
In Figure 9 a construction of end hook is disclosed which supplies wings for the.
loo
watch and the portion 31 which extends through the bail is to be considered the hook within the terms of this specification and claims as by the term hook I mean any portion which extends through the bail of a wrist watch. The portion 32 of this modified form of hook abuts the face of the wrist watch to close the opening between the watch case and the bail, and the finger-piece is illustrated in this form as extending through the side wall 34 of the hook so as to leave the top wall uninterrupted for on nainental purposes, the tongue 35 which is slidable in this modified form of hook has a resilient projection 36 to engage the bottom wall 37 to retain the sliding tongue in any desired position. Any means such as a slot 38 may be provided for attaching this hook to the end of a bracelet.
From the foregoing it will be seen that 1 have provided a bracelet end hook having a sliding tongue which positively locked in opened or closed positions, and has a linger-piece e2; ending through a wall of the bracelet tl'or operating the same.
The foregoing description directed solely towards the construction illustrated, but I desire it to be understood that I reserve the privilege of resorting to all the mechanical changes to which the device is susceptible, the invention being delined and. limited only by the terms of the appended claims.
I claim v 1. A bracelet end hook con'lprising a hen low body, a hook carried by said body, a tongue having a portion in said hollow body and slidable to close said hook, a finger-piece extending from thebody tor manually operating the tongue. and means for retaining said tongue in either open or closed positions.
2. A bracelet end hook comprising a hollow body, a hook carried by said body, a tongue having a portion in said hollow body and slidable to close said hook. a fingerpiece extending through one of the walls oi the body for manual engagement to slide said tongue. and resilient detent means between having a. top wall extended to form a shank with a hook-shaped end, a bottom wall spaced from the top wall, a portion extending from said bottom wall. to form an abutment, a. tongue slidably mounted between said .alls for closing said hook end, and a resilient projection carried by said tongue to engage either side of said abutment to hold said tongue in opened or closed position.
5. A bracelet end hook comprising a body having a top wall with an. opening therein, and extended to form a shank with a hookshaped end, a bottom wall spaced from said top wall and having portions folded to form an end wall for said body, a tongue closing the hook and having a portion slidable in said body between said top and bottom walls, a resilient projection raised from the stock of said tongue for snappingby said end wall of the body. to engage either side thereof and hold said tongue in opened or closed positions, and a finger-piece carried by said tongue and extending through said opening for manually operating said tongue.
6. A bracelet end hook comprising a body having a top wall extended to form ashank with a hoolnshaped end. a tongue slidable along said top wall and having a portion offset to engage and close-the end portion of said hook-shaped shank end, means for retaining said tongue in opened or closed positions, and a finger-piece tor operating said tongue.
In testimony whereof I atliX my signature.
