My invention relates to mining apparatus.

A. further object of my invention is to provide an improved mining apparatus of the mounted type having an independent propulsive mechanism in the form of a power drum mounted thereon adapted to wind in a cable secured at an extraneous point in advance or in thercar of the truck and having improved guiding means for the cableand an improved general arrangement of parts. These and other objects and advantages of my invention will, however hereinafter more fully appear.

In 1 my improved construction it will be noted that I have mounted on the bodyportion 41 a propulsive or reeling mechanism generally designated 10 which is adapted to wind in a fiexiblemember, herein a cable 11. This reeling mechanism, which likewiseisa l-Iolmesinvention, comprises a unidirectiona pressurelluid actuated driving motor, a por-' tion of which is indicated at 10", disposed within the drum of the reeling mechan sm, the rotation of the drum being controlled by a reaction mechanism, generally desig nated 12 including a brake band 13 and brake band applying mechanism including a lever 1 L pivoted at 15 to a downwardly projecting rod 16, which is in turn pivoted at 17 ton crank 18 adapted to be operated by a lever 19 disposed adjacent the operat ing side 01' the truck. The drum is provided with a brake band 20, having a suitable operating handle 21, wh'ch is adapted to control or brake the rotation of the drum when the reaction control mechanism 12 is released, for instance, when the mining appa ratus is moving down a trackway of a steep gradient. Pressure fluid is adapted tobe admitted to the drum driving motor til) through a pipe connection 22 under the control of a throttle valve 23, which pipe connection communicates through a pipe con nection 24c leading in any suitable manner to a hose reel 25 suitably mounted on the rear end of the adjustable body portion a and which is adapted to wind in or pay out a hose 26 the mining apparatus moves along the trackway and through whichhose pressure fluid passes from any suitable source of supply. A guiding mechanism, generally designated 2?, guides the hose as it is wound in or paid oit from the reel.
In my improvement it will be noted that when it is desired to move the mining apparatus forwardly along the trackway the cable 11 is passed from the top or the drum of the reeling mechanism 10, beneath a guide roll or sheave 28, slidably mounted on a transversely extending. horizontal shaft 29 supported by suitable standards 30 carried upon thebody portion 4, and forwardly over a guide roll 31, journaled on a transversely extending horizontal shaft 32, forwardly beneath the mining machine and its cooperating parts over a transversely extending horizontal guide roll 33-, jourl'ialed as at 3% in bearing members 35 suitably secured as by bolts to transversely extending plate members 36 which arein turn suitably secured to longitudinally extending parallel angle irons 37 forming a portion of the body portion a of the truck. The cable 11 is then guided laterally over the roll 33 by means of guide sheaves 38 rotatably mounted upon vertical studs39 disposed in the same verticalpplane as the axis of the guide reel 33, the cable then passing forwardly along the trackway to a suitable stationary abutment, for instance, a rail clamp or the like. When the cable is in this position the throttle valve 23 is manipulated by the operator permittin pressure fluidto pass through the hose an, the reel connections, and pipe connections 21 and 22 to the drum driving motor. The op erator then manipulates the handle 19 which applies pressure to the brake band 13 operating the reaction control inechai'iisni 12. cansing the drum to be rotated in a clockwise direction as viewed in Fi 2, winding in the cable and consequently. moving the mining apparatus forwardly along the trackway.
As the cable is wound onto the drum. the guide sheave .28 moves back and forth along the shaft 29 causing the cable to be wound evenly onto the drum in the usual manner.
When it is desired to move the mining ap versely of the, truck around a guide sheave 40, journaled on a vertical stud ll. suitably secured to a detachable bracket member 42 which isprovided with an inwardly projecting cylindrical portion 43 adapted to be inserted in a bore 44: formed in a carrier member 45 suitably secured to the cross plate members 36 of the truck. The bracket incur ber 42 is provided with an inwardly projecting lug 45 adapted to engage the side at the carrier member 45 thereby preventing rotation of the bracket about the cylindrical portion 43. The bracket member is also provided with an upwardly extending arcuate guiding portion 46 which prevents the cable from dropping oil the sheave when the cable is slackened. The cable then passes from the sheave 4O rearwardly along the side of the mining apparatus around a guide sheave d7, similar to the sheave 40. rotatably mounted upon a stud 48 suitably carried by a bracket 49 which is adjustably carried by means of a set screw connection upon a b aclret 50 suitably secured to the truck body portion at, and the cable then passes transversely of the truck and around the guide sheave 51 rotatably mounted upon a vertical stud 52 carried b i a bracket :33 suitably. secured to the truck frame. It will herein be noted that the bracket 49 may be swung in out of the way when not in use, if desired, by simply releasing the set screw. The cable then passes rearwardly along the trackway to a suitable extraneous stationary abutment. The drum of the reeling mechanism 10 is then again actuated, thus reeling in the cable, and consequently moving the mining apparatus rearwardly along the trackway.
As a result of my improvement it will be noted that I have provided an improved mining apparatus propulsive mechanism having an independent driving motor which is of exceedingly simple anducoiupact form and which may be applied to a truck of standard construction with a minimum of change. It will further be noted that I have provided an improved unidirectional propulsivc mechanism adapted to move the mining apparatus in either direction along the trackway by means of a flexible cable and which includes improved guiding means for the cable.
l/Vhile I have in this application described one form which my invention may assume inpractice, it will be understood that this form of the same is shown for purposes oi illustration and that the invention may be modified and embodied. in various other forms without departing from its spirit or the scope of the appended claims.

3. In a mining apparatus, a wheeled truck adapted to support a mining machine, a propulsive mechanism therefor independent of such machine including a power drum-and a. flexible cable cooperating therewith, and means to guide said cable during movement of said truck in opposite d1rections including guide sheaves journaled on vertical axes at the opposite ends of said truck and at oposite sides of the transverse zone in which said drum lies.
4. In a mining apparatus, a wheeled truck adapted to support a mining machine, a propulsive mechanism therefor independent of such machine including a power drum and a cooperating flexible member cooperating therewith, and means for guiding said flexible member forwardly and rearwardly during movementof said truck including a plurality of guiding sheaves car ried by said truck at opposite sides of the transverse zone in which said drum lies.
5. In a mining apparatus, a wheeled truck having a mining machine thereon, a propulsive mechanism therefor including a power winding drum and a cable cooperating therewith, and means for guiding said cable including a plurality of sheaves disposed adjacent the longitudinal center of said truck and at each end thereof.
6. In a mining apparatus, a wheeled truck iaving a mining machine thereon, and independently powered propulsive mechanism carried by said truck including a wind ing drum and a cable cooperating therewith, and means for guiding said cable including a plurality of sheaves journaled on vertical axes and disposed adjacent the longitudinal center line of said truck and at each end thereof.
7. In a mining apparatus, a wheeled truck having a mining machine thereon, and inde pendently powered propulsive mechanism carried by said truck including a winding drum and a cooperating cable, and means for guiding said 0: ble including a plurality of sheaves disposed at each corner of one side of said truck and at each end thereof and one of which is rotatable on an axis hearing constantly the same relation to the truck.
8. 111a mining apparatus, a wheeled truck having a mining machine thereon provided with a driving motor, means independent of said motor for propelling said truckrelative to a trackvay including a power drum and a cooperating cable, and means for guiding said cable including a plurality of transversely disposed horizontal rolls and a plurality o'f sheaves rotatable on vertical axes adjacent the major axis of said truck.
9. In a mining apparatus, a wheeled truck having a mining machine swiveled thereon provided with a driving motor, means independent of said motor for propelling said truck relative to a trackway including a power drum and a cooperating cable, means for guiding said cable forwardly beneath the mining machine and the swivel to a point in advance of the truck, and means for guiding the cable outwardly transversely of the truck, rearwardly along the truck, inwardly transversely of the truck, and rearwardly to a point in the rear of the truck.
10. In a mining apparatus, a wheeled truck having a mil-ling machine thereon provided with a driving motor, means independent of said motor for propelling the truck relative to a trackway including a power drum and a cooperating cable, and means for guidin said cable forwardly beneath said mining machine to a point in advance of the truck including a plurality of transversely disposed horizontal rolls and cooperating sheaves journaled on adjacent vertical axes.
11.. In a mining apparatus, a wheeled truck, a mining machine thereon provided with a driving motor, means independent of said motor for propelling the truck relative to a trackway including a power drum and a cooperating cable, and means for guiding said cable forwardly or rearwardly relative to said truck including a plurality of guidesheaves, at least one of which is let erally adjustable about a spaced pivot.
12. In a mining apparatus, a wheeled truck adapted to support a mining machine during cutting, a propulsive mechanism therefor including a power drum rotatable upon an axis fixed as to longitudinal movement relative to said truck, and a cooperating flexible cable cooperating with said drum, and rotatable guiding means carried at the opposite ends of said truck and nearer the proximate end in each case than said drum for guiding said cable during movement of said truck.
13. In a mining apparatus, a wheeled truck adapted to support a mining machine during cutting, a propulsive mechanism therefor including a power drum rotatable upon an axis lined as to longitudinal movement relative to said truck, and a cooperating flexible cable cooperating with said drum, and means carried at the opposite ends of said truck and nearer the proximate end 111 each case than said drum for guiding said cable during guiding said cable including a plurality of sheaves disposed at each corner ofone side oi? said truck and at each end thereof, said winding drum being disposed in a transverse zone intermediate thecorner sheaves which are at opposite ends of the truck ln testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
