This invention relates to improvements in electric light fixtures and more particularly to features pertaining to the mounting in such fixtures oi the sockets "for the incandescent lamps The principal object of the invention is to provide an electric light fixture having a simplified form of mounting for the lamp socket such that the usual brass mounting sleeve is eliminated and the socket is directly supported and held against rotation in the collar of the fixture and is entirely concealed from view. A further object is to provide a mounting for the lamp socket which may be more economically produced and more readily assembled and disassembled than constructions heretofore employed.
An embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 is a bottom plan view of the improved fixture.

The fixture itself may be of any usual :torm such as a wall plate or bracket, a ceiling canopy or rosette, a chandelier frame or the like, and in any case includes a plate 5 which is suitably ornamental and on its visible side is provided with one or more projecting open-ended collars, one of which is shown at 6 and in which the lamp sockets are fitted.
The collar 6 is fornied at its outer end with a socket centering portion which may either be an internally cylindrical portion or a series of longitudinal ribs whose longitudinal inner faces impinge on a circle and which are functionally a cylindrical portion. In the drawim; the centering portion is shown as provided by ribs 7. Below the socket centeringportion the collar '6 is of enlarged diameter both to accomodate the wiring and to provide an internal shoulder 8 at the inner end of the socket centering portion, such shoulder in the present drawing being constituted by the inner or bottom edges of the ribs 7.
The socket is indicated generally at 9 and in respect to its wiring and contact details may be of the usual form. However, the
usual brass casing or mounting sleeve is not employed and the fibresleeve 10 which encloses the metallic parts is directly and closely fitted in the socket centering portion 7 The socket is provided with a porcelain base 11 which carries the fibre sleeve 10 and said sleeve is formed above said base with an annular shoulder 12. This shoulder may bear directly against the shoulder 8 of the socket centering portion in order to limit the outward movement of the socket in the collar 6, but it is preferred for this purpose to employ a washer or stop ring 13 which is fitted upon the sleeve 10 and bears against the shoulders 8 and 12.
The socket 9 is supported and held against rotation in the collar 6 by a transverse supporting bar 14. The porcelain base 11 of the socket is formed on its outer flat face with a diametrical groove 15 for co-operation, with the bar 14 in holding the socket against turning on its axis, the groove 15 being formed between the channels 18 through which the line wires are inserted If desired a flexible fibre bearing plate may be interposed between the bar 14 and the base 11, such plate being 'formed to nest in the groove 15 with the bar 14 engaging in the nested part but preferably the bar 14 directly engages closely in said groove. The bar 14 is suitably secured to the plate 5 to extend across the rear end of the socket 6 and is preferably secured at both ends, these being formed to fit over stud bolts. 16 carried by the plate 5 and being held upon such stud bolts by retainingnuts 17,
The ring 13 having been fitted upon the fibre sleeve 10 in a position limited by the shoulder 12, the socket is introduced into the collar 6 from the rear, the sleeve 10 being inserted into and through the centering portion 7 until the outward movement of the socket is limited by the engagement of the ring 13 against the shoulder 8. The socket as thus fitted in the collar 6 is positioned whereby the bar 14 may be engaged in the recess 15 and the bar 14 is thenengaged in said recess and secured to the plate 5. The bar 14 supports the socket in the collar 6 and also holds it against turning movement.
Having fully described our invention we claim:
An electric light fixture including a plate having an open-ended socket receiving collar provided with a socket centering portion and an internal shoulder at the inner end of said portion in combination with a socket having a porcelain base provided on its outer flat face with a diametrical groove and having a fibre sleeve carried by said base and beyond said base provided with an annular shoulder for co-operation with said shoulder first named in limiting the outward movement of said socket in said collar, said fibre sleeve being adapted to fit closely in said centering portion, a bar for co-operation with said base to supportsaid socket in said collar and for co-operation with said groove to hold said socket against turning, and means for securing said bar to said plate in position to project across the inner end of said collar and exercise its socket supporting and holding functions.
