HAY TRACK HANGER,
Application filed August 3, 192?. Serial No. 210,372.
This invention relates to a hay track hanger, and has for its object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a hanger of such class capable of being quickly con nected to and supported from the roof rafters of a barn without employing holdfast devices, such as nails, screws and bolts to secure the hanger in position and which when employed generally result in the split- "lfi ting of the rafters.
Further objects of the invention are to provide a hay track hanger, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, which is simple in its construction and arrangement, strong, durable, compact, thoroughly eiiicient in its use, conveniently installed with respect to the roof rafters and the track, and comparativeiy inexpensive to manufacture.
With the foregoing and other objects in 90 view the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter more specifically described, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein is shown an embodiment f of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which fall within the scope of the claim hereunto appended;
In the drawings wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several views:
Figure 1 is a cross sectional view of the roof of a barn, showing the adaptation with the rafters thereof, of a hay track hanger in 35 accordance with this invention suspending a track rail.
Figure2 is a sectional side elevation, part- 1y broken away, of a hanger in accordance with this invention.
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view of the coupling element for supporting and suspending the hanger members.
Figure 4 is a perspective view of the coupling element.
Figure 5 is a perspective view illustrating the oppositely disposed hanger members.
Referring to the drawings in detail 1 denotes a roof including oppositely disposed rafters 2, 3 which are spaced from the roof 1 by supporting planks 4: whereby spaces 5 are provided between the rafters and the roof body. The supporting members or planks 4 are arranged in spaced relation.
A hay track hanger in accordance with this invention comprises a coupling member consisting of a horizontally disposed bar,
standing on edge, of appropriate length and width and which is indicated at 6 and provided centrally of its upper longitudinal edge with a notch T which'provides a seat. Connected to each end of the bar his an upstanding hook member 8 capable of being angularly adjusted relative to the bar 6 and adapted to seat on the top edge of the rafter, as well as overlap the same, as shown in 5 Figure 1, whereby the coupling element is detachably connected to and supported from a pair of rafters.
Extending through each end of the bar 6 and a lower end of the hook member 8 is a 7 bolt 9, carrying a securing nut 10 and a resilient washer 11. The heads of the bolts 9 are countersunk in the bar 6 and the shanks of the bolts project from the hook members 8. The washers 11 are interposed between the hook members and the nuts 10. After the hook members have been adjusted to the desired position, with respect to the bar 6, the nuts 10 are screwed home, and in connection with the Washers 11 fixedly maintain the hook members 8 in adjusted position. Suspended from the bar 6, is a pair of oppositely disposed hanger members and each of which consists of a shank 12 provided with a plurality of spaced openings 13. 35 The upper ends of the shanks 12 terminate in a circular hook 14 and the lower ends of the shanks 12 each terminate in a hollow semicircular extension 15 which is disposed at right angles to the plane of the shank 12. l/Vhen the hanger members are in active osition, they abut against each other an the hooks 14 thereof are oppositely disposed, but the extensions 15 oppose each other. The extensions 15 when the hanger members are in abutting engagement are also oppositely disposed. The extensions 15 form grips for the head 16 for the track 17. The hanger members are detachably secured together, by holdfast devices 18 which extend through the openings 13 of the shanks 12 and said holdfast devices 18 provide means to maintain the grips formed by the extensions 15 in clamping engagement with respect to the r head 16 of the track 17. When the hanger members are in position to suspend the track 17 the hooks 14: are so disposed to form an annulus and which is seated in the notch 7 and under such conditions the hangers are prevented from removal from the bar 6 until the holdfast devices 18 are-removed to permit of the separation of the hanger members,
5 bar 6.
and after the holdfast devices are moved the hanger members Can he lifted from the har16.
The hooks 14: of the hanger members provide means for securing said members .to the The construction and arrangement of the coupling element is such that it can be positioned, with respect to the rafters, Without the employment ofholdinst devices to secure said element in position. The bar 0 6. of the .couplin element provides a. suspension means for the hanger n'ieinhene and thesemi-circular, extensions 15 of the hanger members aot asgrips or .clan ips for securing the tracks 17 to said members.
