BRAGE.
Application filed August 6, 1926. Serial No. 127,641.
This invention aims to provide a simple and inexpensive brace for holding out a barbed Wire with respect to the other when of a fence, to the end that stock will be deterred from pushing against the fence.
It is within the province of the disclosure to improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices of that type to which the invention appertains.
"With the above and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, Without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings Figure 1 shows in elevation, a portion of a fence whereon the brace forming the subject matter of this application is mounted;
Figure 2 is a front elevation of the brace;
Figure 3 is a side elevation of the brace;
Figure 4 is a section taken about on the line t4 of Figure 2. i
The device forming the subject matter of this application preferably is made of metal throughout and comprises diverging arms 1 having parallel fingers 2 provided with cooperating parts for holding a wire, for instance, oppositely opening notches 3 in which the barbed Wire l is received. A
pivot element 5 such as a bolt,.connects the finger 2 and permits them to be opened for the lod 'ment of the wire 4 in the notches 3. A standard 6 is mounted toswing on the pivot element or bolt 5, but when the bolt is tightened up the upper end of the standard 6 may be gripped between the fingers 2. A connection 7, preferably a bolt, unites the fingers 2 to prevent them from opening on the pivot element 5, and releasing the Wire tithe connection '4" engaging the edge of the standard 6 to hold the standard 6 at an angle to the arms 1, the construction being such that the barbed wire 4: is held outwardly in spaced relation to the wires 8, adjacent wires 9 being mounted in Wire-engaging means at the outer end of the arms 1 and at the outer edge oi the standard 6. The arms 1 may be provided with parallel parts 10 and the aforesaid Wire-engaging means may embody oppositely facing diverging hooks 9 on the outer edge of the standard 6 and on the outer edge of the parts 10 of the arms 1.
The device is simple and inexpensive in construction. but will be found thoroughly elficient for the ends in view.
What is claimed is i A device of the class described, comprising diverging arms having parallel fingers provided with oppositely opening notches for holding a wire a pivot element connecting the fingers and permitting them to be opened for the lodgment of a wire in said notches, standard mounted to swing on the pivot element, and a connection uniting the fingers to prevent them from opening on the pivot element, the connection enga ing the standard to hold it at an angle to the arms and Wire-engaging means at the outer end of the arms and of the standard.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto affined my signature.
