' This invention relates to a clipping machine.
The object of the invention is the production of a machine for clipping threads extending from pieces of fabric or other materials, with the saving of labor and expense.
The second object of the invention is the production of a machine wherewith a wire and the like can be easily and quickly clipped. The third object of the invention is the production of a machine, that can be easily connected to the table of a sewing machine or other support. The fourth object of the invention is the production of a machine for clipping different objects with parts that are of simple construction and in view of the operator.
In the accompanying drawings Fig. 1 indicates a perspective View of an exemplification of the improved clipping machine,
detachably connected to the table of a sewing machine; Fig. 2 shows a right hand side view of Fig. 1 and Fig. 3 shows an enlarged left hand View of a portion of Fig 2.
In the drawings a table 1 has mounted thereon a sewing machine, comprising a frame with the base plate 2, having formed therein an opening 3. The presser foot A of the sewing machine is connected to the presser bar 5 in the usual manner. The
needle bar 6 of the sewing machine is indicated with its usual needle 7 The head for the needle bar and presser bar is indicated at 8.
A supporting plate 13 is fastened to the table 1, by means of the screws 14:. A bell crank with the arms 15 and 16 is connected to the plate 13, by means of the pivot bolt 17. A roller 18 is journaled to the free end of the arm 15. An angle shaped lever 22 is shown with the arms 23 and 24. The
arm 23 is pivoted to the plate 13, by means of the pivot bolt 25. A flange 26 is formed with the arm 24. and has fastened thereto the push plate 27. A spring 27 has one end connected to the plate 13 and its other end is connected to the arm 24. A cam plate 28 is fastened to the arm 23. Curved cam slots 29, 29 with the straight connecting portion 29 are formed in said cam plate.
The roller 18 is engaged in said cam slots.

A helical spring 35 encircles the bar 30 and has one end connected to the shears adjacent to the handle end 33 thereof. A collar 35 is fastened to the. bar 30 and has connected thereto the other end of the spring 35. A bracket 36 is fastened to the base plate 2, and has formed therein an elongated opening 36. the opening 36 and is pivoted to the bracket The bar 30 extends through 36 by means of a pin 36 which extends through an elongated opening in the bar 30 A bracket 37 is fastened to the base plate 2. A bolt 38 clamps the handle end 34 of the shears between said bracket 37 and the plate 39. A piece of material 40 is indicated with a pair of threads 41 extending between it and the presser foot 4.
To use the clipping machine, the threads 41 are located between the blades 31, 32 of the shears. The latter are normally in their open position with the elements of the machine located as shown in Fig. 1 and in full lines in Fig. 2. The operator now pushes the push plate 27, and the connecting rod 30 will be pulled down as indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 2. By this means the handle end 33 of the shears is swung down, and the blade 31 is swung up and cuts the threads 41. The spring 35 maintains the blade 31 in proper lateral position relatively to the other blade 32.
Various modifications may be made in the invention and the present exemplification is to be taken as illustrative and not limitative thereof.
Having described my invention what I desire to secure by Letters Patent and claim is:
1. In a clipping machine the combination of a supporting plate, a bell crank pivoted to said plate, a roller pivoted to one of the arms of the bell crank, a stationary bracket in the machine, a pair of shears in the machine with the handle end of one of its blades connected to said bracket, a second bracket in the machine, an operating bar with one end thereof pivoted to said second bracket and the other end thereof connected to said bell crank, a collar fastened to said operating bar adjacent to said second bracket, a spring encircling the operating bar with one end thereof fastened to said collar and its other end connected to the handle end of the other blade ofthe shears,
ing means between the other arm of the bell crank and the handle end of the other blade 1 of the shears, a lever having a pair of arms, one of said arms pivoted to said supporting plate, a cam plate having cam slots supported on the pivoted arm of said lever,
said cam slots engaging said roller, a push plate for the other arm of said lever and a spring connecting the latter arm of the lever and said supporting plate.
