BIRD CAGE.
Application filed November 22, 1926. Serial No. 149,881.
and others that will appear as the nature of the invention isbetter understood, the same consists in the novel construction, combina tion and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and pointed out in the appended claims.
In, the drawing forminga part of this application andin which like designating characters refer to corresponding parts throughout the several views,
Fig. 1 is a top plan View of the base and tray of the cage, with cage proper'or dome partly removed;
Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional view through the base and the tray'and through a fraction of the dome or cage proper;
Fig-3, is an enlarged view of one of the locking means associating with the tray for locking the dome thereto;
Fig. 4 is an enlarged cross-sectional view of one of the locking means showing the operation thereof; and
Fig. 5 is a view partly in elevation and partly in section taken on line 5+5 of Fig. 4
therein. a .ase generally indicated by 1 having a bowl-lilire portion 2 from which radiates a horizontal portion constituting shoulder 3 from which the annular upright portion 4 projects. From said annular up right portion 4 flange or rim 5 flares out on substantially horizontal plane. Cooperating with said base is atray (Shaving a curved portion 7 which is adapted to closely fit within the bowl-like portion 2 of base 1. Said tray further embodies a horizontal flange 8 which flares out from said curved portion 7 of the tray and is adapted to rest upon the shoulder 3 of the base.
The cage proper or dome embodies'a plurality of wire strands 9 which are arranged in a round formation as is clearly apparent from Fig. 1. The lower ends of said wire strands 9 are held in position by annular band 10 wherein the wire strands 9 are frictionally heldwithin loops 11 struck out Referrin to the drawing there is shown,
in said band; Said band is receivable within the annular upright portion 4 0f the base 1 and normally is adapted to rest upon the flange Set the tray 6 upon shoulder 3 of the base 1.
7 It is observed that said plate 16 is of a resilient springy material by reason of which fact it closely abuts the outer periphery of the annular upright portion 4 and by reason of which fact lip 14 normally projects beyond the inner periphery of said annular upright portion 4 and overhangs annular band 10, flange 8 of tray 6 and shoulder 3 of base 1.
Radially in respect of the base 1 lip 14 g has downwardly struck out rib 21 which frictionallv engages the upper edge of aninularband 10 for preventing shifting of the dome with respect tothe base, which arrangement will also prevent rattling of the The up.
per edge of said annular upright portion 4: of base 1 at a point below said rib 21 is provided with slot 22 within which said rib 21 is accommodated and within which it is adapted to make sliding movement when the lip 14 is shifted out of its normal position by means of handle 20. 7
To remove the dome from the base, plate 16 is manually shifted from annular upright portion 4 by means of handle 20, which operation will withdraw lip 14 from its normal position best shown on Fig. 1 and will pass the same beyond the outer periphery of the annular upright portion 4. Then the portion of band 10 with the dome adjacent said lip 14 may be raised for Withdrawing the same from within said annular upright portion 4:, flange 8 and shoulder 3 for removing the. same from within the base as is apparent- It is further observed that in the operative association of the dome with the base, tongue 12 and lip 14: remain within the respective'adjacent pairs of wire strands 9, which arrangement prevents the rotary shifting of the dome with respect to the base.
\Vhile there is described herein a preferred embodiment of the present invention, it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made therein, without departing from the spirit and scope of the in vention as claimed.
What I claim as new is:
1. Means for attaching a bird cage to its base comprising a fixed-fastener carried by the base and engaging the cage, and a catch.
device formed of spring metal and attached to the base at plural points at substantially right-angles to each other to distribute the strain at theipoints of attachment to'the base when the fastener is flexed, said fastener having a lip adapted to engage the bird cage to retain the same on the base.
2. Means for attaching a bird cage to its base comprising an elongated sprlng metal ng in opposite directions, said horizontal extension adaptedto be attached to the cage 7 base and said lip adapted to engage the bird cage to hold the same on the base, and an L-shaped extension on said member forming a handle for flexing the same to release said lip from the bird cage.
3. Means for attaching a bird cage to its base comprising an elongated spring metal member having a pair of lips formed integrally therewith and located each adjacent an end of said member and bent to extend in opposite directions, one of said lips adapted. to be attached to the cage base and the other lip adapted to engage the bird cage to hold the sameon the base, an extension'on said member forming ahandle for flexing the same to release said latter named lip from the bird cage, and said last named lip formed with a rib constituting a centering device for the cage with respect to its base. 1
i. A bird cage comprising a base having a shoulder and a rim, awire' strand dome, an annular band engaging the-lower ends of the wire strands of said dome, a tongue upon. said rim normally overhanging said annular band and being disposed between a pair of adjacent wire strands, alip at substantially diametrically opposite point from said tongue in association with said rim, said lip normally overhanging said annular band and being disposed between a pair of adja cent wire strands, said rim at itsrbase portion having a slit through which said lipis adapted to shift, a downwardly projecting rib formd in said lip for frictionally. engaging the upper edge of (said annular band whensaid lip is in operative position, and means upon'said lip for withdrawing the same from engagement? with said annular band. 1 i j j i In testimony whereof I affix my signature ANTON M; KROCZEK.
