SCREW PUMP.
Application filed January My invention relates to that class of pumps described in United States Letters Patent No. 529,837 of date Nov. 27, 1894, in which there are employed two pairs -of intermeshing threads, right and leftk and left and right respectively. In pumps of that class there has been heretofore no means of adjustment to adapt the pump for pumping liquids of different viscosity without the loss of etliciency andpower. VIt is the object of my improvement to so construct a pump of that class which can readily be changed to pump a liquid of a heavier viscosity than ,the liquid for which the pump is primarily designed to pump. o
In the drawings forming a part of this application Fig. 1 is a side elevation with parts broken away of my improved pump. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of certain of the parts shown in Fig, 1 from which parts have been removed for illustration. Fig. 3 is section on the line 3 3 of Fig. 1 of the pumping chamber and the inlet chamber, the base being omitted and the supports broken away. Fig. 3a is a longitudinal vertical section on the line .3a-13a of Fig. 3 with the central shaft bearing shown in full lines.
' Fig. 4 is a top plan of a slight modification of the pump shown in Fig. 1 with parts broken away. Y
In the drawings 5 is the base block which is secured to the floor 6 by bolts7. 8*-9-10 are pedestals which are mounted upon 5 being secured thereto by bolts, not shown. These pedestals extend to the center of shafts 11 and 12 and support the bearings and bushings for said shafts. The tops of pedestals 9 and 1() are connected by gear case 13 through which shafts 11 and 12 pass.
of the casings forming said chambers, thereby facilitating` the installation of the pump and enabling` the pump to be connected to the source of supply by two lines of pipes and to enable the discharge of the liquid pumped, by two lines of pipes. That portion of casing 17 between chambers 28 and 30 I term web 36. In the drawings I have shown the ports-on one side connected by pipes 31 and 32 to source of supply and a place of discharge respectively. rFhe ports on the other side are covered by plates 34. Shafts 11'and 12 are provided-with bearings 19l which are split on the central horizontal plane which passes through the shafts.' By splitting the bearings and the gear case and pump chamber casing on the plane which passes horizontally through the centers of shafts 11 and 12 if it is desired to use the pump to pump liquid of a heavier viscosity than it was originally designed for I can shim up the parts so as to provide a` larger pumping chamber which enables me to pump heavier liquid. I provide .shaftsl 11 and 12 between threads 14 and 15 with bearings 2O which are supported by casing 17 and cap 27. These vbearings are held from longitudinal movement by lag bolts 25. In Fig. 4 I have shown a. slight modification of thepump shown in Fig. 1 which consists in extending'shaft 12 at the end opposite motor 18 and providing it with independent driving means shown as motor 35.
' Having described my invention I claima 1. In a screw pump of the character described, a pumpchamber casing divided lon v gitudinally and horizontally on the plane that passes through the centers of the screws, said casing having in the upper portion a pumping chamber and in the lower portion an inlet chamber, said chambers being sepa rated by a web and being connected at the outer ends by ports, each chamber having a p port that opens through the casing and in.
that portion of the casing below the division ing chamber and having ports therein below linev between the parts thereof. the line of the split.
2. In ay pump of the character described, aV In witness that I claim the foregoing I 10 pump chamber casingV having formed in the have hereunto subscribed my name this 8th 5 upper portion thereof a pumping chamber, day of January, 1925.
